Is this a cheesy idea?

Original post by CMS

And I know you will all be honest with me on this one!

On the invitation to my friend's bridal shower a few years ago, guests were invited to bring an 'unwrapped Christmas ornament' to put on their Christmas tree. And at the shower there was one of those mini-trees set up so people could put the ornament on.

I would LOVE to do something like that!!

My friend got married in late October and her shower was in September. I'm planning an August wedding, so I'm going to assume my shower would be in June/July.

Do you think I would look tacky if I put on my wedding invite for guests to bring an Ornament and then have a tree set up at the reception?

I love the idea!!

I just went to a baby shower this weekend, and on the invite it said instead of buying a card, please write your name and a message in a book for the baby. I thought that was the coolest idea ever!! Cards basically cost the same as a book would these days and at least the book is helpful down the line!

I don't think it'll be too much of hassle actually...when does Hallmark put their ornaments out? I could have sworn it was at the end of the summer!?

If it's too hard to get a tree, or if it's going to clash with your theme..you can always get those trees that are just the white branches..you know what i'm talking about??

I say go for it!!

OMG I LOVE THAT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally just stole the idea for my friends baby shower so thank you!

Also, you know I'm a fan of whatever you want works! I love the idea of the Christmas Tree - my parents' friends always host a Christmas in July party - why not tell your family to make that your theme of your shower? Its always a great time for my parents so I'm sure it would make your shower fun and personal. Hope this helps!

OMG - I'm such a teacher... I always give books when babies are born. I give the two Bs - books and bonds! Parents seem to love both!

I think if you want to do it you should do it...
because people can order ornaments all year round.. plusthere are storeslike the Christmas Store in Port Jeff, where it's Christmas all year long...

However, if your shower is in JULY, you could do it then and have the CHRISTMAS IN JULY celebration.. a lot of stores do that.. and have sales

This is a really cute idea! I second this one!

It would look silly to have a random tree at your shower, but if you had the theme Christmas in July it would make sense.

Its a cute idea, but I think people will have a really hard time finding christmas ornaments in the summer.

Re: Is this a cheesy idea?

Thanks everyone!

My friend got married at the perfect time...so it really worked with her shower in Sept!

I'm going to keep this idea in the back of my head, and check out when Christmas ornaments come out next summer. I used to work at Hallmark and I remember the Christmas ornament display being up before Labor Day and I think I still get invites to their ornament kick-off (which for some reason I think coincides with Christmas in July).

Anyway, I decided that if it doesn't work for the wedding, I might have a Christmas party and include on the invites the words, 'Please be a part of our Christmas...bring an ornament for our tree..' or something like that.

You know what this has taught me? That there is good points to getting married at ANY time of the season!!! LOL
