I really really did not want my future husband to see me before the ceremony. But after talking about it we decided that we should. :( we really want to get to go to the cocktail hour and don't want to take away cocktail hour from our family and Bridal party for pictures.
I was trying to think of some alternatives...We were thinking of adding a half hour to our cocktail hour. Do you think it would be completely weird to buy a really simple pretty white dress and maybe put some type of bow or ribbon to match the brides maid dresses on it and take pictures in that dress before the ceremony. Then right before we get married I will change into my actual dress so that my FH sees me for the first time in my dress at the ceremony? Then since we would add the half hour we could spend maybe that half hour taking some more pictures in my wedding gown.
Is this totally unnecessary and its really not a big deal for him to see me in my wedding gown before the ceremony. This where some possible types of dresses I was thinking about.
I was just thinking of changing the bow color....
Just writing it now, I feel kind of silly... but I really want the first time for him to see me in my dress to be at the ceremony.
I think that is an absolutely wonderful idea (and how romantic!!!!!!!!!)

Seems like you already made up your mind and just looking for some agreement hehe if you really dont want him to see you in it, then i think the idea is perfectly fine... we are taking pics beforehand also, but him seeing my dress is no biggie for me...

Its not a bad idea as long as you dont mind that MOST of your professional pics would be in this dress not your wedding dress. Most pics that you two will take is that moment you have to take them which is after either before or after ceremony. You will have some ceremony pics and some reception pics but i know looking at my pics a majority of them were the 2 hours we took after ceremony and before reception. Plus those are usually the pics of you and dh that you will blow up or are those special pics bc its mostly the two of you. If you don't mind this then its fine. But i also think it can be just as special when you see eachother before ceremony. I know many people who did this and it was just as emotional for them. You can do something special for this.

I just know its not really a big deal at all to see the groom before the ceremony. I just always imagined it the other way. I always think the dresses I posted are a little too dressy for what I am thinking, I want something more simple and whimsical. I just feel like I need to get over him seeing me in my dress.... because in reality its not a big deal.

some people make a whole little ceremony over FH seeing you in your dress before the ceremony...its really personal and emotional if that is what you are worried about losing....however, the dresses you posted are beautiful

What do people usually do? I feel kind of clueless... I only have a few married friends and they got married at the church.

Re: Is this completely crazy?
i will be getting married at my RH as well... and im planning on sticking to tradition and not seeing my FH until i am walking down the aisle.
luckily, my rh is letting us go there an hour and a half before the ceremony. so i am planning on having all of the girls (including the moms) go for that extra time before in order to take some pictures...cause then all that is left after is the guys pictures, group pictures, and the bride/groom pictures..

I think adding a half hour to the cocktail hour is fine. If you want to do pics before in the casual dress thats fine, but do you really want a lot of professional pics not in your wedding dress?

I didn't think about my professional pictures not in my dress. :( That would kind of stink. I don't know why I am so hung up on this.

that would be my main concern. Like i posted above, MOST of your pics will be taken during that time you set aside for just pics and if you are doing most of your pro pics before ceremony then that means MOST of your pics will be in the other dress. And most of the pics with you and dh and ones you'll want to enlarge will be in that dress

Re: Is this completely crazy?
sorry to crash but the other issue is then you will miss out on all the beforehand pics in your dress with your girls. Why dont you do something similar to what i did. I got married at our church but we did the majority of pics beforehand (not together). I did all my pics with my girls, he did all his pics with his guys, i did my pics with my fam, he did his pics with his fam, we saw eachother at the ceremony and our pics only took a half hour-45 minutes between the church and the reception because we just had to do a few pics with our bridal party, and then our fams. If it means so much to you to not see him before the ceremony, then add the half hour onto the cocktail hour and do them between. Even if you miss 15 minutes of the cocktail hour, you stil get what you want. HTH

Re: Is this completely crazy?
It's a cute idea but then all of your photos would be in this other gown and since I'm sure you spent a lot of time and money on the gown itself, you'd want to show it off. Plus I'm not sure that changing will have the same effect as just seeing you for the first time walking down the aisle if that's his first time seeing you that day.
You can always do reveal shots beforehand, with the photographer capturing the moment he sees you for the first time.

Re: Is this completely crazy?
Honestly, I think you will regret not being in your wedding gown for all the formal pictures.
What a lot of brides do is have FH stand with his back to you, and you walk in. Then he turns around and you both see each other for the first time. The photographer and videographer both capture this moment. And I think it's almost MORE special because it's just you two (and your family and close friends if you choose) at that moment.
Trust me, when you are at the other end of the aisle, your FH will still be overcome by your beauty and his love for you.

Im doing the same thing ... we actually are going to talk to the RH to see if they can extend CH an extra half hour so that we can take pics and not miss it, but if we do miss the CH then thats life. We are going to get the food in our room anyway, so its not like we are really missing the food or anything. That tradition is really big for me esp since we arent getting married at church
