My sister is going to Ireland tomorrow for a month to study abroad... we are sooo so excited for her, esp. because we come from a big Irish family. My godmother sent her a card with $100 in it for her trip. I have yet to receive so much as a phone call congratulating me on my engagement! Am I being stupid or is that really f*cked up?!?! Set me straight or agree with me and rant and rave with me!

Yes, it's a bit odd. But my grandmother did the same thing to my sister. Out of the blue she decided to give me money when I got married (1st marriage). When my sister left my parents home just 1 day after me to live with her ex-boyfriend, my grandmother only gave her half of what she gave me. Mind you they lived together for 7 years. Her theory. Well, you are not getting married!
Try not to worry about it! Old people have a certain of thinking that is beyond me.

Oh that is pretty 'annoying' to say the least...family can act ODD at times...try to be the bigger person in the situation and be happy for your sister...regardless Hope you are ok...

I'm totally excited for my sister and happy for her that people are giving her spending money for while she's over there, but I'm just saying I'm bummed that my aunt... my GODMOTHER hasn't even called to acknowledge that the first grandchild/niece on that side of the family has gotten engaged. People never cease to amaze me!

Yea it sounds about Right for My family My Grandmother & My aunt my MOH still has not sent me a Card NOTHING.. IM SOOO UPSET.. But she just bought herself a flat screen Plasma TV No problem.. I dont even get an ECARD....

Maybe she's waiting to see if you guys are going to have an engagement party? I didn't get any cards or anything from my family either but then someone asked me if we were having an e-party or what b/c they were all waiting to give us gifts. Maybe that's her story too?

Maybe she is waiting for the wedding to give you something very special, have you tried to make her a part of the planning, like I don't know maybe call her and ask if she has something from her wedding like a piece of lace from her dress or something like that to be your ' borrowed' sometimes my grandmother didn't get to involved because she didn't want to be a bother. She passed away a few years ago and I only wish I had her here at my reception.

Family really is messed up - NO ONE on my side of the family sent me a card or called to congratulate. In the meantime almost ALL of FH's family sent cards/gifts/called etc. So sad sometimes........

The planning has barely begun. I've only been engaged for a month. My father obviously called her (it's his older sister) to tell her the good news and she was ecstatic, but it's just hurtful for her to acknowledge someone's trip to Ireland (seriously?) but not my engagement.
