is this normal for a LI home?

Original post by Espo22

Ok dont know why im looking at MLSLI.com but just to look at options, not sure exactly where were gonna move to lol...but im seeing 5-6 bedroom homes for about $400k-500k, i keep looking for other info to see what else is wrong with the place, it just seems so low for a 5 bedroom home In queens i cant even find a 2 bedroom for that much

I might definitely look into LI then if thats the case

Taxes are super high in LI

IT WAS $9,000 a year which isnt bad considering if you were to buy a home like that in queens you would be paying more than $800,000 so youre saving over $500,000 the tax still doesn't add up to what you save you still save way more

Yeah but depending on which town in Queens. We were looking at come cheap houses in LI but the taxes were almost 10-15k.

massapequa is less in taxes, i saw many from 5k and under...again if you are saving over $500k or more on a home in li rather than getting the same thing in queens then the 10k is not that bad

look at the post just above this one, a home in queens for almost 2 million and thats without closing costs or anything...although it is a GORGEOUS home

well Fh mentioned massapequa bc so many of his friends live there...first i would like to live a bit closer, and its funny bc he says it but meanwhile he would be the worst at a long commute lol.

I really have NO CLUE what were gonna do, what area we are moving to or anything, we always go back and forth

I love looking at houses. We are looking to move and we looked at houses in FM, Bayside, etc, but you get really nothing for 600,000. Its super expensive. My parents love Jamaica Estates but you wont find a house for less than 8-900,000 but the houses there are soooooo nice

seroiusly though VS is changing big time! We used to live there and moved. Now my house is vacant and sitting there and so it the house across from where i lived. Some parts are nicer than others but the school districts are not the same as they were

we bought our house and my father renovated it...and now it's worth more not the prices you see on mls...my mom had our house the market and everyone wanted it bc it's a legal 2 family also...

don't worry bout school districts...by the time kids come along and hit 5 yrs old things may change and may end up being better as they once were...

yeah i like VS, yeah good idea with malverne

Yeah my dad could do all the renovating, well not him doing it himself but like i said before my dad buys homes or apartments and then renovates them and sell it for more. So he can help with that

yeah honestly i am not worried about the school district at all right now...i have time until my kids go to school and this doesnt have to be a home we live in forever, we might want to move after a few years

yeah if your not rushing to have kids but you also have to think that if the school district isnt good now.. later it wont be either and it will be harder for you to sell your house or get the money that you want for it. Trust me that is what happened to us. my house should have sold for a lot more than it did

I know you dont care about the school district now, BUT...if the schools are not good chances are the parents of these kids will be your neighbors, and also if you want to move one day, you will get less money for your home because the schools are not great.
Just something to think about.
