My parents live on the water too and I think its pretty cool when people show up by boat. I don't think they're doing it to show-boat (pun intended). I had my e-party in my parents back yard and someone arrived by boat but I didn't give it a second thought. Honestly there are SO many things going on and so many people to say hi to and talk about wedding details with that it will most likely go unnoticed. FH and I took one ONE!!!!! picture together (just us) at our e-party and it wasn't even a full length pic. I feel like we just got so caught up in the party we didn't even notice the little things.
I would let this go. IMHO I don't think its a really big deal in the grand scheme of things. Enjoy your party and even the planning part of it because, like everything else, it flies right by.

Re: Is this rude? Coming to my party by boat???
i am in your situation as well
but our people are asking if there is room first to dock their boats.
i dont think they are trying to overshadow or make their entrance grand or anything. i think its fine as long as we have the room and they ask.
if they didnt and just showed up- they would have to figure out what to do with their boat! becuase im not worrying about that on the day of my party!
and i dont think he would be rude if he told them there isnt room... its nto like its a parking lot???

Honestly i don't see the big deal.... yea they might want to show it off but should it matter how they get there?
I dont think it's a big deal either. If you do have the room...and they told you in advance...then i think it's fine. Obviously, if too many people want to, FH will need to tell the others there is lack of space. But if you live on the water and they want to come by boat...i dont think t's any different than coming by car. JMO
That's kind of the thing is that they didn't tell us in advance now or for the housewarming and we don't have enough space for 3 boats and we are using our boardwalk for other things and he doesn't want to be rude to them but now we're going to have to split gazebos and tables and stuff if we aren't using the boardwalk.
I'm confused. How do you know they are coming bo boat if they didnt tell you or FH?
Because he says they never come over without coming by boat and because they just showed up by boat for the housewarming and he had to scramble to move things around because he didn't want the boats too close to one another, etc.
oh, ok. in that case, i think FH should nicely explain that there isnt room and you need the docuk. under normal circumstances i dont think it'sa big deal...but if it's screwing up the set-up of your party...i dont think it's wrong to explain that to them

honestly, i don't think its a big deal, i had some friends take a limo to my eparty and i thought that was pretty cool....if it bothers you though, i would just call those guests and tell them you don't have the room.

All you have to do is call and say that you understand they may be coming to the party by boat and explain that you will not have docking space. So as to not 'appear' rude, just apologize..and say that because of the way the party will be situated and organized...there is no room for the docking of any boats. If their not trying to be 'showy,' maybe they're just trying to make a nice weekend of it so they can spend time on their boat.
BUT...it's all you. I would just and explain that they cannot... LOL... Just be nice about it!

With Fh's Godparents, I'm sure they aren't trying to be showy. With the other people they are, but it's a done deal I'm going to have FH explain that the boardwalk is being used so if they were thinking of coming by boat it may not be the best idea, etc. I'm sure he won't be happy for it, he's a people pleaser but I don't want people tripping on kayaks in our backyard and I don't want to have to move food around and I do think it's showy.

Re: Is this rude? Coming to my party by boat???
is it easier for them to arrive by boat? how is parking by you? maybe that is the reason for this and not showing off. Just a guess so who knows lol but if something is a lot easier to do then people will usually choose that so don't take it as an insult.
I personally wouldn't mind only bc dont ppl who live on the water prefer to take their boat whenever they can well if they can.

They don't live on the water, we do. They'd all be driving west to their respective marinas to take the boat back east to us when they live very close actually. And parking is great. It's not a big deal at this point, I'm pretty decided I just needed to be reassured that I wasn't being a bridezilla :)
And oddly enough we nearly never use our water toys, boat included which is why I shot down the idea of buying jet skis the other day. It's just an expensive piece of lawn furniture most of the time, but everyone is different.

lol ok the convenience excuse is definitely out then and no reason for them to bring a boat. I was trying to find the positive and look on the bright side of things and maybe just maybe it wasnt to show off but looks like its not the case lol
sorry, just tell them there is no room or it will interfere with your plans

Maybe they figure that if its a nice day, they would be spending time on the boat that day anyway. I think it seems like a fun way to go. LOL sorry. But if it really bothers you, just tell them. Otherwise, I'd move on from this- your going to have a lot of things happen during your planning that annoy you and you have to choose your battles carefully.

It's presumptuous that you have the docking space available for these people to dock their boats.
Honestly, since you heard by the wayside that these guests are arriving by boat, I wouldn't go out of my way to accommodate them by moving whatever I would already have docked there.

If I had the space, I wouldn't mind. But I would def not go out of my way to accomodate them. They can drive.

I know. I was a little annoyed that you took your boat to my tupperware party. Kinda showy if you ask me.

I dont think its a big deal. FH and I have a boat and we've taken it to parties and restaurants thatt have docks. We didnt do it to be like 'Hey look at us' Our boat is small and no one would care anyway It was just fun for us. We drive everywhere all year long. So if we can take the boat somewhere, we do.

I think it's rude if they didn't ask first or to just assume that they can just drive their boat up to your house. I wouldn't care as much about them trying to show off. People who try to show off like that usually wind up looking like a$$e$ anyway.
