Do you think that a honeymoon registry is tacky? We live together and already have so many things and I'm not one for extra things that I will hardly use. I keep trying to register for more things but there is nothing that we want, and we really need money bc we are racking up credit card bills to pay for this wedding. We have registered for some things so it's not like our guests have to do the honeymoon thing. Just wanna see what your opinion is.

I don't think too many guests would contribute....if you don't register at all, you may be more inclinced to receive money.

Re: Is this tacky
We are registered for gifts at 4 different stores. We registered for china, silverware, glasses and things like that but not as much as other registries that I've seen. But I figure people can give money towards the honeymoon instead of giving us cash if they don't want to give a gift, I don't know maybe I'm wrong.

I've heard that it's actually the new thing to do. I actually thought about doing it too.

I would register at BB and B, you can return stuff for cash after the wedding.

Re: Is this tacky
spread the word through family that you want $$ - that is done often and not considered tacky.
Personally, I don't think the honeymoon thing is tacky, but i know old-schoolers like my Grandma would find it tacky...you have to gauge your guests...i bet your friends would be happy to contribute to it!

Re: Is this tacky
I have thought about this ever since I saw it advertised along with mortgage registrys and I've come to the conclusion that it's like asking for money. I would suggest you didn't do it.

Re: Is this tacky
Funny, I have yet to ever give anyone a gift off their registry... maybe FH and I are lazy but we always give $$$$. My parent's always did that too!
I hear ya about living together... I'm going to register to 'upgrade' a lot of my current items just so those who really feel they have to buy me a 'thing' they can. Since I already have a decent 2 slice toaster - I'm registered for this like mega 4 slice monsterous thing that fits bagels and has all these setting and such. If someone wants to spend $90 on it, fine - but I'd take a check anyday instead. I wouldn't mind everyone contributing to my mortgage or maybe a 're-do my bathroom and kitchen' registry.
The other thing is that I found that a lot of our family have given us engagement/housewarming gifts along the way, so I have a feeling they may be more inclined to a check anyway. Guess we'll see. We should do a poll of the ladies that lived with their DH's before the wedding - the ratio of money to registry items... interesting?

Re: Is this tacky
personally i dont think its tacky at all to do a honeymoon registry. I know alot of people who have done it as a matter of fact I am thinking about doing both an appliance registry and a honeymoon registry that way people have a choice. My travel agent gave me the little papers to put in the invitations and the guests can put whatever they want towards the honeymoon

Re: Is this tacky
Considering you have other registries with actual items people can buy, I don't see any harm in adding a honemoon registry. It will give your guests plenty of options. Some might actually think its cool that they can help out with your honeymoon. Also, if some see you have that honeymoon registry, they might be more inclined to just give you a check, seeing that it could be used for the honeymoon!! It can't hurt to have it. Whats the worst that could happen by having the honeymoon registry, if no one uses it, no one uses it, atleast you tried something new!!

i agree! I don't think it is tacky per say but i think it is not worth it unless you are having a HUGE bridal shower. Most people will probably not opt to give money at a bridal shower, people go to bridal showers to see the bride open home gifts and to see her wear that silly hat. At my shower not one person gave me money, some gc's but not many. And since you have registered at 4 different places for china and such, those are gift people go for as opposed to a HM. Most people these days give money as a wedding gift

Re: Is this tacky
Well, the question really is if other people would percieve this as tacky, and my thought is that yes, they would. If you offend people like that, they will purposely give you junk.
I like everyones idea about BB&B returns.
I find myself in the same dilemma. We have everything we need for our household, and we live in a small NYC apartment (shocking I'm sure), and really don't have room for all the fabulous new items we would perhaps like to have. My initial thought was to not register at all -- I figure that would give people the idea (especially since we are having a small wedding). I may now go back and register at BB&B for the aforementioned reason.

Re: Is this tacky
Oct.2004 bride I totally agree with you, that's why I wasn't sure if it was tacky. I can't imagine opening up gift card after gift card that would be silly. But I thought even if 1 or 2 people contributed it would help us out a lot. Thanks for the input everyone!
