Is this too $?

Original post by Bebalina

Do you think 1750 is too much for fh's wedding band? its a platinum band...fortunoff just called me with the price, the one he tried on was in white gold and that one was 600.

Thats a lot. My husbands plat band (from Tiffanys) was about half that! I think it was an 8mm band but I dont remember.

I have no problem with Fortunoffs. But DH and I decided that since he did not care what kind of metal his ring was, we would get yellow gold. I personally prefer yellow gold bands on men. So we ended up saving a lot of money. I was really surprised how much the platinum bands were.

I, however, have a platinum e-ring and a platinum eternity band.

I also have a plat e-ring and plat eternity band but my fi also didn't care what kind of metal his band was, which is a great thing because plat is very expensive, especially fr large finger sizes, so he picket out a beautiful white gold band fr half the price...culdn't be happier. He actually told me that he's looking forward to wearing it!

It depends on the band. - It is detailed ? Diamonds ? Platnium is about 2-3x the price of white gold. My FH got a PLAIN and i mean completely PLAIN Platnium band - we paid $600 - I think $1750 is a lot
Price around, fortunoff is extremely overpriced although the have amazing stuff !

It is somewhat high but I do not think it is outrageous. If you like it, go for it. There is no reason why only the lady's ring should be costly!!!

Bailey Banks and Biddle has much of the same lines as Fortunoff's. I'm not sure if they are cheaper but I liked their service better because the stores don't get as busy as Fortunoff's.

JMO but YES!!! maybe they have a similar ring else where? we spent 400 on mine and his will be about 200 at the most even with getting his specially made

Fortunoff's may be overpriced but thier service is amazing. My e-ring is from there. Whenever I am in the neighborhood I walk in, hand them my ring, they clean it. If a stone ever falls out they will replace it. If you want to upgrade you just pay the difference btwn. your diamond and the new one.

ETA.. we tried the diamond district and the prices there were about the same.

My DH has a white gold band. Our jeweler told him not to waste his money on a platinum band. Ironically, my DH was up at the jewelers yesterday with a friend looking at engagement rings & wedding bands and again, the jeweler told our friend not to drop the money on a platinum band...nobody would know the difference (but he refused to set any of the e-rings/wedding bands in gold...only platinum.)

I believe my DH paid $250 for a 7mm comfort-fit white gold band.

ETA: Fortunoff's has a pretty decent size markup on their jewelry.

Definitely. Go shop around and compare prices.

I make jewelry, and I recently found out about this jewelry makers catalog called Rio Grande that many jewelry companies use... believe it or not they have all sorts of high quality wedding bands in it -- platnum, white gold yellow gold... if you go into google and type the name in, their web site should pop up... the only down thing is you have to pay for the catalog... but you get a certificate to get the $$ back when you order something... order the gem and jewelry catalog... it's great with great wholesale prices!!

My FH band was $1800 and they dropped down to $1200 @ Kay Jewelers plus I have the lifetime warranty and of course it came with a life time inspection policy.

yes!!! if you go ANYWHERE other than fortunoff, you will not pay that. fortunoff has beautiful stuff, just over priced. that is where i go to get ideas - then i go somewhere else to have it made.

agreed...i saw a ring in fortunoff that i liked (not loved) and it was 10k....i saw virtually the same ring (and liked it better) at a store at the mall for about 4k.

I agree...Fortunoffs is just overpriced. You can get the same exact piece at a reputable jeweler for 1/2 to 3/4 of that price.

the price of platinum has gone way up - but that still sounds very high.
