Is this too casual for a MOB to wear?

Original post by KK Holiday

And I told her it wasnt formal enough and she doesnt have to break the bank but she is the MOTHER OF THE BRIDE and this is a Friday night wedding. She should wear something more formal.

I think it's beatutiful!! I would go with whatever she wants & is comfortable in.... She'll be happier that way & I don't think it's something to cause tension with.... I really like that dress!!

my mom and FMIL are both wearing gowns, so for our wedding i would say yes. However, it depends on how formal your wedding is going to be.

I think it is a little too casual for MOB, maybe go shopping with her, any department store ( nordstroms has a great selection )

My mom got hers at a store in Albertson, i can find out the name if you want. Her dress also comes with a jacket for her arms ( i think she is crazy because her arms are FINE ) but it makes her feel better

I think it's a little too casual. A dress doesn't have to cost a lot. Mine got hers at Macy's for under $300 and it is really elegant. JMO!

Kathryn check this collection out. My mom got her dress here, but it was discontinued before i saved a pic of it!

Lots of jackets and it was reasonable pricing!

Jordan Caterina Collection

Thank you Lindsay!!! They have some nice stuff!

I asked my mom why she just wont get a regular MOB dress and she said she doesnt like the way they look.

This is my mom's dress - she too is worried about her arms.. lol - she is getting it in black, its stunning yet simple and classy. I love it. Your mom might like this collection, my mom too did not want something too crazy or poofy.

Has she tried looking at David's Bridal - their gowns for MOB are priced reasonable.

I think it's fine for a day wedding...maybe a bit to casual for an evening. Then again...she should wear what she is comfortable in...

My mom actually wore a Jessica McClintock BM dress to my sister's wedding a few years ago - she looked great in it!

Kathryn, I hope your Mom can get a dress/gown that she feels pretty in. From my own perspective, I should have searched more, because now I'm stuck with a $300+ dress, that, while everyone except my Grandson and Husband says is nice, I don't feel pretty in it. I'm very disappointed. When I saw what I could have gotten, the day I went to get my dress from alterations, I was steamed!! My focus had been on an aqua dress, so that's what the saleslady brought me. I saw such a beautiful baby blue gown, on another Mom, that I wish I had bought!! But, Debi wanted me to wear something in the aqua line. I wish Debi and I could have agreed on something I felt pretty in. Mary MOB

PS My Grandson thought the dress looked weird, because of the handkerchief hem, layers; My Husband didn't say anything.

thanks Mary. I was actually hoping you might be on for your opinion! (from a mom!)

above all, I want my mom to feel comfortable and beautiful. But she is worried about her weight being an issue. Every dress she sees she tells me is for skinny moms. I want her to be at ease, but I want her to know that even though shes not a 'skinny mom' she can still look beautiful!

I would even help her pay for her dress if I knew she found something she liked. It's just when she came to me with this, it looked like something she might wear to work (ok a little dressier than work). I want my mom to look as beautiful as I do on that day.

ps. i loved your dress! I think its very pretty! But i always believe in going for what YOU want, if it is possible talk with debbie and see if she wouldnt mind the baby blue dress.

Hey, sweetie!!! Please give your Mom a hug for me, and tell her I know how she feels. We're not alone as Moms, feeling this way. Menopause and other aging issues can do a number on a woman's body image, and self esteem. Right now, I feel ugly. I know I probably was a bit of a Momzilla, 'picky' when dress shopping, but all those aging issues came into play. Throw in a huge downpour of rain, and a bossy, unfriendly saleslady, who makes one feel even uglier, and you have a Mom who was just so frustrated, she quickly bought something she didn't like, just to get out of there, and also, because I didn't feel I had any choices, or any time left to choose a gown. I'm probably not much help, except, if your Mom has not made a final decision, there's still hope that she can find a dress that you'll both be happy with. Did she already buy that dress, and if so, can she afford another one, and is she willing to shop for another one? Kathryn, you're a sweet Daughter, and I know you love your Mom. I can't tell you what to do, because every Daughter/Mom relationship is different. I wish Debi would have said something like, 'Mom, don't be discouraged, we're going to find you a dress that you do feel pretty in, even if it's not aqua!!' When I told Debi about the baby blue gown, she said that wouldn't have worked with her color scheme. But I love baby blue!! It's too late for me, because my dress has been altered, and we don't have more $ to buy another one. I love Debi, and don't want to add to her wedding stress, but I wish things had turned out differently, re: the dress. Prayers for you and Mom that you can find a dress you both like, and for both of you!! Much Love, Mary MOB
