The place I want to have the RD at is quoting me $75pp for a sit down dinner w/choice of 3 entrees, salad, passed hors d'oeuvres, dessert, and beer/wine/soda/coffee. It's in a private room. There's a $3000 minimum, so we would be inviting at least 40 (we were thinking we'd have more like 50-60 though). Is this too much? What is the 'usual' per person price for a RD in a private room of a restaurant? Thanks!

Re: Is this too much for RD?
We're only having 30 people @ $30/pperson. It's not sit down though, it's buffet.
It's a lil high but if that's the place you want it at then go for it.

Re: Is this too much for RD?
There is no 'usual' price. Prices vary just as the regular menu prices at restaurants vary greatly from one place to the next; you should expect to see more expensive packages offered at more expensive restaurants and less expensive offers at cheaper restaurants. You can find places that will give you a similar package for $40, and some that will be $100+. It's up to you to determine where you want to have it and what you want to spend. The best thing you can do is shop around to get an idea of the variations in price at places that seem acceptable to you.

I had a private room with about 40 people and I think it was $40 or $45pp. I think what they are quoting you is too high.
ETA: this price included unlimited wine and beer.

Re: Is this too much for RD?
The place we are consiering has 3 different menu plans, I think $25-$35 /person. we are having 20 people. I'd feel bad if FILs spent more than that, but they aren't paying for the wedding & FFIL likes to spend $ on dinners, so really it is up to them.

We're paying around $30 - $35pp for a private room, sit down, one drink included..... I guess it depends on the restaurant.

I think it's alot for a RD. We are looking to spend no more than 40 pp.

That's more than I'm spending pp for my WEDDING!!! Yes, I'd say it's a little too high.

Re: Is this too much for RD?
We were hoping to only spend $30-40pp but didn't know if that was realistic or not. Glad to know that there are all different price ranges out there. Maybe we'll shop around a bit, but it's annoying driving to New Rochelle just to eat dinner

I think that's a bit much, but if you're really sold on the placce and you can afford it, than why not. I would however continue looking around to make sure you get the most for your money.

Did you check Frankie and Johnnies? Since they're family style, you may be able to get a better deal there. Also try the Waterfront.

I think thats a lot considering its only beer wine and soda and not a full open bar.
We got a similar deal to yours for around $50 a person.

New Rochelle or right near it since that's where we blocked rooms and there are TONS of out of town guests/family. I brought up NYC, but FH said it would be too inconvenient for people.

That sounds kind of high - But if you don't have a problem spending that on the RD then go for it ! - But if you're asking if it's the 'norm' or 'expected of you' I'd say definitely not ! Your family/friends do not expect the RD to be a mini extension of your wedding !! Good Luck !!

Why are you inviting 60 people? Yes, I think $75 a person is too much for dinner--unless it's a dinner at a wedding...
Think about it...Would you and your FH generally go out to a restaurant and pay $150 for the two of you? Maybe on a special occasion...

We were thinking originally that we'd only have around 40 people, but the list got pretty long when we realized how many family members were going to be plus the bridal party. We've got a lot of OOT guests, mostly family and close friends, that we'd like to invite to the dinner. I haven't met some of FH's relatives and vice versa, so we thought this would be a great way to introduce everyone and not have it done on the day of the wedding. Like, 'Thanks for coming, I'm Jenn by the way. You may remember me from the ceremony--I was the one in white.'
