that's always a possibility with dresses that are on the thinner side. Which dress are you considering? If it's sold at a bridal salon I would ask to take it outside and either stick an arm in it or put it on a friend and look at it in the sunlight... If it's online i would try to find it in person and do the same. My dress is on the 'thinner' side but it still has 3 layers of fabric so in no way is it see-through. HTH!
