Is your invite time and actual start time different?
Original post by Bridex100
We were thinking of putting 6:30 pm on our invitation so we can start the ceremony promptly at 7pm.
What are you doing? Put the actual start time on the invitation?

actual start time... Most people will be punctual, and as for the ones who are late.... we're always waiting for them... but NOT THAT DAY! Can't get your poop together on time, you miss out!
(Can you tell we're always the ones sitting in the restaurant like dorks waiting for 30 min for others to show up?)

I was going to do this and decided not to
Me too, if you are really worried maybe do 15 minutes prior but I would not do a half hour

I put the actual time of the ceremony, 4 pm, but I don't think I walked down until 4:15, maybe even 4:30 . . . and would u believe someone STILL had to sneak down the aisle before me!
i think you bring up a good suggestion though. . . maybe that is a good idea. . . by a half hour only. . . just so you have no one going into the church at the last minuet. . . that could get a bride even more nervous!

We put the actual start time. If people are late, they are late. (We had no latecomers) But most people get there with plenty of time. If I were a guest and the wedding didn't start when it was supposed to, I'd be pretty perturbed.

We put the actual start time. However, the direction cards specifically stated that transportation to the ceremony from the parking area would only be available until 15 minutes before the ceremony start time.

We called the wedding for 7. It started at 7:30. It was winter and we did not want to risk weather having interfering with travel for our guests. The BM was understrict instructions not to allow ANYONE in while the ceremony was going on. Turns out the weather was cold but nothing was falling from the sky. And Frankly, there is no reason for people to be late to a Saturday night function. If you get an invitation over 2 months in advance, you should be adult enough to make accommodations with plenty of time if you work.

No.
I also don't think it's appropriate if it's at a RH and you don't provide anything for your guests in the interim between the time they were told to arrive and the start time of the ceremony (champagne welcome or pre-cocktail hour or something). Most people were early to my brothers' weddings. I can't imagine how they would have felt if they just had to sit in church for 45 minutes waiting for the ceremony to start.
Most of your guests will be on time, and none of them want to sit around for half an hour thinking you're just late to the wedding. Also, the church I'm sure does not want you doing this (and I'd not do it without checking first). There are probably other events going on throughout the day, and if you're the first, the doors may not even be unlocked, yet. Besides that, they'll still be setting up for your wedding when guests arrive half an hour before your start time.
There may be another wedding just being done and they are changing the decor, etc.

yes. the BM from Crescent said to DEFINITELY do 30 minutes earlier on our wedding invitations....
our ceremony officially begins at 11:30, and we put 11:00 on the invitations
yeah, we did the same. we were advised to by our hall. i am a very prompt person and would not want people shuffling in as i say my vows
Re: Is your invite time and actual start time different?
We put the correct time for the ceremony but a 1/2 hr earlier for the CH

Our RH is also doing a champagne cocktail and my FMIL hired a piano player to play in the entrance lobby. 30 minutes or 15 minutes before I think is permisable

I would not do that. If you put 6:30 when it really starts at 7, people will show at 6:15...put the actual start time, if they are late, they are late

Re: Is your invite time and actual start time different?
I know that a lot of people say their RH said to do this, but personally I think it is rude. My invite said 6:30 and only ONE person came in after me. Giorgio's kept people int he lobby til after the bridal party and I came in and then they let in that ONE person.
Most people were at the RH by 6 on their own, that means that they would have been there by 5:30? Like I said, rude.

Re: Is your invite time and actual start time different?
Everyone I know travels on a delayed time - so if you say something starts at 4pm, they'll be there at 5pm.
I HOPE that they would be courteous enough to know that a wedding day is different and will be there on time. My wedding is on a Friday evening, so I still don't know if we'll put the exact time or 15 minutes earlier.
