Isn't the point of a registry so you don't get duplicate items?

Isn't the point of a registry so you don't get duplicate items?

Hi Gals,

Yes i've been registry stalking...guilty as charged.
My shower is saturday and i've been scoping things out. i noticed the other day that we had gotten 2 dust busters even thought the registry said 1. i thought maybe the person buying decided to get one for themselves or gave it as a gift to someone else.
i know there was only 1 vaccume cleaner and it was bought weeks ago. now there is 2 vaccums on the list! I don't know how this happens. i thought that was the point of a registry so you don't get duplicate items.
i'm just worried about the guests when i open gifts and people see their gift bought by someone else.
Has this happened to anyone?
And what do i do about it??
Thanks.

I guess you can always return the multiples...I don't know why people do that.

I had a couple things SAY I got multiples but didn't really. One of the other issues I had was someone ordered it and had it shipped and it didn't show up as 'purchased' on the registry till it shipped, by then someone else had already bought it.

I got two sets of knives because my aunt didn't follow my registry. And she was so upset about it. I just looked excited and tried to ignore the fact their were duplicates, then dealt with it later. We actually returned the ones we registered for because my Aunts set was far nicer and more expensive.

I guess i'm just worried about hurting people's feelings. i feel bad for whoever bought it first- but there's no way of knowing. and it must be hard to hide when guests see their gift up there multiple times. they know one of them is getting returned.
Do people really not follow the registry or is it just errors on the store's part?Unless people see the item on the registry and buy it at a later date unaware that it got purchased sometime in between.

The stores dont update the registry as quick as they say and it happens. People wont be upset they will understand and all you have to do is switch it out for something else.

So just think of it as you will now get to go on a shopping spree.

i think people buy dups because they had an idea of what they wanted to get you and how much they wanted to spend, and they just went shopping too late. what i dont get is why people buy stuff for you thats not on the registry??? that really annoying-especially if its something you dont like (they got it b/c they loved it)

There may be a glitch...

Apparently the microwave we registered for is shown as being bought twice but according to my sister who knows who bought what, the person who bought it had their stuff rung up twice so it appeared as being purchased twice on the registry.

I guess I'll find out for sure whenever my shower is!

Its always the stuff not on the registry, that you don't like and want to return that you get without gift receipts (and have no idea where they actually came from.)
