It started out beautifully...but all went downhill (LONG!!)
I am such a closet LIW bride but I get so many ideas and love everyone who shares and are very helpful to each other. I felt it was important for me to share this story with all of you. Last summer when I went looking for my wedding dress, I spent hours and hours at various salons. I happened to fall in love with a dress and the seamstress at Elegant Bride in Albertson. The woman was so nice and I felt comfortable standing in a room with her half naked (that was an important issue for me). So I ordered my dream dress and my dream veils. I really loved this woman, so all my bridesmaids and two flowergirls ordered their dresses there too. I thought it was strange when she only took $10 off each of the girls dresses and nothing off the $190 flowergirl dresses! But I let it go. The other night my moh, mother, and I went to see my dress and my moh's dress. My mother asked the woman if the flowergirl dresses were in. Keep in mind the flowergirls are both 2 years old and are about the size 2T (small girls). The woman came out with two dresses that were a size 6!! They were huge!! My moh was shocked (one of the flowergirls is her daughter). The woman said, oh, the smallest size you can order is a 6. Well, she never told us that!! If I would have known, I would have chosen another dress!! The alterations would be unbelievable!! So we left there and my mother said, I'm sure Hope will do right by us and not charge for the fg alterations. This wedding has brought in a lot of business for Elegant bride. Well, my moh called her and she was so nasty, she said no, to doing the alterations for free, and they can pick up the dresses anytime and get them altered elsewhere!! She also told her that the dresses could have been ordered in a size 4 but she didn't do that. Also, she NEVER gave the mother's a receipt for the fg dresses until they came in!! So they would not know she ordered a size 6!! I really do not know what to do!! At this point I do not want the fgs to wear these dresses. I want to get something for them somewhere else. I want them to get their money back. I feel terrible that they are going through this! Here is an even bigger issue: Now all of my bridesmaid dresses are there (at Elegant Bride) and so is my wedding dress!! Do I take it somewhere else to get altered?? I am very upset because I really felt connected to this woman and now...she *****!! I really do not know what to do. Anyone have any suggestion I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again for listening (reading) my drama!!

What do the dresses look like post a picture and maybe someone will buy them from you. Sorry about the situation, I would just get your alterations done there as long as she has a cap amount to charge you, because most places will charge you a decent amount to get them altered elsewhere. Unless you do a search and find a private alteration site that is not in a salon. I know there was a post the other day about private seamstresses.

I'm so sorry you're going through this.
Get all of your dresses today and demand refunds on the FG dresses. You can find another seamstress.

That is so horrible. I agree maybe you could e-bay dresses. I might try to find another seamstress. I wouldn't trust them anymore. I'm sure everything will work out in the end.

take those dresses somewhere else...there are to many talented seamstresses out there. the same thing happened with the shop i got me BM dresses from--rude, rude, rude and the alterations from them cost a ridiculous amount. don't give this shop another cent--as soon as you have all the dresses, give them a piece of your mind.

YIKES! That's too bad....perhaps you could go in with your mom and express your concern. Explain how you thought they were 'experts' and that you are very confused as to why she would order a size 6 for the girls. There's no law that says you have to have the alterations done there...so if you are not pleased with 'Hope's' answer, you can just walk out with all the dresses in tow. I do think that both parties ought to at least sit down again before anything drastic happens. You never know, maybe she was just having a bad day (not that its an excuse, but I always give people the benefit of the doubt). Good luck!

I think you should wait until you get your dress in, and altered, and than just tell them you don't want the FG dress.
Talk to the manager/owner - they may be able to help!

Thank you all for your kind words and suggestions. I am not sure if Hope is the owner. The two mothers (of the flowergirls) BOTH my sister-in-laws are going to Elegant bride tomorrow to try and get their money back. I really do not want to get involved because I don't want to cause trouble between me and Hope being that she has my wedding dress right now!! I am going to wait until the girls speak to her tomorrow. My fh wants them to nicely ask for their money back and if she says no, then they will take her to small claims court. He feels that she scammed them into having to pay for more alterations being that they never got a receipt when ordering/paying for the dresses. He doesn't want them to start yelling and getting upset. I pray they can get their money back. I am going to inform all of my bms to go and pick up their dresses asap and get them altered elsewhere. Me?? Who knows? I really do not know what I am going to do about me and my dress.
Thanks again all, You all have been so nice! I will keep you posted!! Meredith

Maybe she was nice until she had all your $$, now she doesnt need to be???
I dont know. Personally I would not give her another CENT! I would take all my dresses elsewhere and tell you her gave her a review on liweddings. If she knows whats good for her she should fix the problem she started! Is she the owner?

UMMMMM, have I been with my head in the sand? You didn't tell me this!!!!
Now I have to get my dress ASAP!!! I was getting it altered somewhere else anyway. Tell Hope, don't ask her, to either change the dress to a smaller size or you don't want them. Didn't she ask you what size you needed? Shouldn't she have called you and confirmed that she was buying such a bigger size?
Well, call me this weekend and let me know what happens, I'll go Monday to get my dress. You can always bring your dress to my seamstress, she's great, and I am contemplating bringing her my wedding dress too, because I can't stand that woman in Lynbrook!
