Italian brides or anyone who can help...

Italian brides or anyone who can help...

My Mother is not Italian, but my father is...And all the weddings I've ever been involved in were on my Mom's side...

Now...My fiance and both parents are Italian...

In their family, the person who throws the bridal shower gives out statues to the bridesmaids (I've seen Giorgio Armani ones mainly.)

I mentioned this to my Mom (who is throwing my shower)...And she's considering doing it now too...

Has anyone heard of this? Is this generally an Italian tradition? Can she give something else to the bridesmaids? Does she even really have to???

She wants everything to be right for all involved, but I don't want her to get too stressed...

Thanks for reading...And any input would be greatly appreciated...

I'm not Italian...I'm Croatian, but as far as wedding customs it's all very similar...
Yes I'm familiar with the bridal party receiving G. Armani dolls....however they can get very pricey.....an alternate decision is, I've seen other dolls by a company called the Mirela collection?

Yes, my mom gave out small Armani statues. But I don't think it is a tradition. My parents were born in Northern Italy and my mom wasn't really familiar with this but my inlaws (Southern Italy) knew about this and my mom noticed it at a few showers so she did it.

Hi!

I would say this is mainly an Italian tradition...but I agree with the other poster that the Armani dolls are very expensive...almost not worth it, but obviously a nice tradition.

FH's family is 100% Sicilian, and every bridal shower I have been to has had these dolls..honestly, I am glad you brought this up because I have been stressed out lately as to whether or not I should bring this up to my mom....she is spending enough money on everything else that I would hate for her to drop another $1000 or so on these dolls...but on the other hand FH's family might 'talk' if this isn't done...

ohhhh the problems!

I've never heard of that: my mom is Italian ( born here though)
She is not into a lot of old traditions though.

I don't think it is a tradition. Atleast, it's not in my family... my parent's are from Italy.

My mother will most likely buy me the Bride and Groom Armani statue.. but only because I like that one and requested it. She will DEF not be giving any Armani statues to my BM.. I personally think it would be to gawdy (sp)?

Go with what you like. As long as you have Italian music and give out favors, your Italian in-laws will be pleased... for the most part.

I am curious to know if this is a traditon. I will ask my cousins who live in Italy. Reading some of your responses has me wondering. I have never seen this before. I have seen the bride get a few Armani statues.. but not the BM.

ETA: I never heard of that either but my parents aren't from the 'old country', they were born here.

LOL ...I have the same prob....my mom did the armani dolls for my sister, but I'm hesitant about her doing it for me....she's spending so much more this time...but I know she's still buying me the big bride and groom armani figure, just dunno about the grls, thats why I'm debating now if they should get a doll...but maybe from the mirella collection?

Is giving favors a big Italian thing? It is big in family. I didn' t have do the Jordan almonds, but I had to get something 'substantial' , not chocolate or anything like that.
and they were order months ago!

Only my maternal grandfather & Fh's maternal grandfather were born in Italy, so we don't have to do Italian music either.

I have actually seen the lladro ones given out.. I am definitly not doing this... all my bms are you and no one would even appreciate the $$ I would have to pay for them. I really dont think it will be missed.
