My Mother is not Italian, but my father is...And all the weddings I've ever been involved in were on my Mom's side...
Now...My fiance and both parents are Italian...
In their family, the person who throws the bridal shower gives out statues to the bridesmaids (I've seen Giorgio Armani ones mainly.)
I mentioned this to my Mom (who is throwing my shower)...And she's considering doing it now too...
Has anyone heard of this? Is this generally an Italian tradition? Can she give something else to the bridesmaids? Does she even really have to???
She wants everything to be right for all involved, but I don't want her to get too stressed...
Thanks for reading...And any input would be greatly appreciated...

[Is giving favors a big Italian thing? It is big in family. I didn' t have do the Jordan almonds, but I had to get something 'substantial' , not chocolate or anything like that. and they were order months ago!
I'm not even talking about favors!!!!
Don't get me started on my Lenox wedding favors that I spent a fortune on

Mirela collections are pretty nice but don't have that classy looking wooden stand underneath it...
but I've also seen Lenox dolls given out- but wasn't crazy about the particular ones given...
And precious moments is really cute too.

Re: Italian brides or anyone who can help...
I guess I would consider it a Italian tradition but basically the Italian women from 'the old country' usually do it. My mom is not Italian but my dad is. At my shower there will probably be more people from my dad's family then my mom's family so I told my mom that I can not see her spending all that money for the statues and my BMs are not into them so it would be a waste of money.

Can she do Precious Moments or something: 'Cute' instead of gaud?
I guess that could be a good option...but again, I am not even sure the BM would appreciate them if they weren't a fan of precious moments, or any other knick-knack for that matter.
Regarding favors, yes, favors are big in an Italian wedding...the most recent wedding I went to had imported murano crystal napkin holders as the favor...so much for a bottle opener or something!!

I think I will look into some other 'dolls' as my in-laws call them.
They are STATUES!!! NOT DOLLS!!!!

All of the showers I've been to have had the statues which I personally don't like. I mean it's one thing for the bride but to give the bridal party - most don't want them. I'd give mine to my mom. But in all fairness the gesture is nice. I see most popular are the Armani statues as well as Lladro. These things get so expensive and I can't help but think it's not a big deal to skip it. My bridesmaids aren't Italian and definitely wouldn't understand the point.

Two of my bridesmaids are not into those figurines so my mom gave them beautiful Capodimonte boxes instead. They found that more useful. The other girls knew they would get the doll.

I'm sure my FMIL would gasp in horror to hear me say that but honestly I think that unless you absolutely want it then you can and should skip it. My bridesmaids aren't Italian and definitely wouldn't understand the point.
I agree...My FMIL is Italian...I just don't know what to tell my Mom to do...Siiiiiiiighhhhh!!!
And um...with the 18 million bridesmaids that I have...Well...my mom having to give them gifts would really get expensive for her...Especially gifts like that.

But do you think my Mom even has to give out something to my girls??
Is that a general tradition?

my whole family is Italian and is big into all the 'traditions' but we've never heard of that
same here! I'm 100% Italian and we're into all the traditions , etc.. never have I even heard of this
We must be lapsed Italians .. LOL
though I'm generally have a big Greek wedding, so this could possibly be why it hasn't been brought up to me. Though any shower in either side of my family this wasn't done. Then again, practially everyone in my family hasn't married an Italian, so the traditions weren't really enforced , necessarily

Go with what you like. As long as you have Italian music and give out favors, your Italian in-laws will be pleased... for the most part.

Only my maternal grandfather & Fh's maternal grandfather were born in Italy, so we don't have to do Italian music either.
In Italy, wedding favors are a common tradition.

Mine are Mikasa . . .which was pretty much the only alternative to Lenox.
I have this little figurien of a girl in a white dress w/flowres that looks lieka flower girl & my mom doesn't remeber where I got it, & I always though it might have been from my uant's wedding ( I was the FG) her husbnd's family is Italian & my grandmother was more into traditions back then , so maybe it was from the shower, or my bridal party present.
My mom also went to a baby shower where every one got a little ceramic boy or girl figurine--that' HAD to run into money. Sorry, ladies, I'm not much help, but its an interesting tradition to learn abuout.
