Went to the DMV yesterday to change my name on my license, title, and registration. It feels weird losing my last name. I kind of feel a little sad about it, does anyone else feel or think they will feel this way? I know I could've hyphenated it and stuff, but DH is rather traditional in that aspect, and really insisted on the name change. (Poor guy doesn't ask for much, except this one time!) I know in the long run, I will get used to it, but right now, I'm not about it.
I spent the first 27 years of my life as one name and now I have to change everything!!!

I can completely understand why you're upset. It's got to be really difficult to change your name after 27 years. I know that I'm going to have a hard time with it too, but I ultimately want to have the same name as my children.

I can understand, I think it's normal to feel this way.

i understand too! i'm totally dreading when it comes my time. i love my family SO much that it's kind hard to lose my 'connection' to them, if that makes any sense. i thought abought hyphinating, but since i already have two first names, i don't want two last names too!!!

I can understand why you feel that way. It doesn't bother me so much moreso because we have so many different last names in my family. I am really looking forward to having the same last name of my children.

I can't believe it but I felt the same way you did. I always thought I was going to be SO happy to lose my name b/c it's so long and annoying but now that it's coming to the time where I actually have to do it I feel apprehensive.
It makes me kind of sad!
So that's totally normal to be feeling that way.
I want to become Mrs. Rella and I'm really excited about it and happy but it's bittersweet in a lot of ways and that's one of them.
At least your last name is not changing to Dickman or something

I totally understand. My last name is Japanese, and almost everyone can never pronounce it right, so growing up I couldn't WAIT to change my name. Now that it's really going to happen, I'm like, wait a second...I'm really going to miss my name! (at the same time, I'm still changing it, so I guess it can't be bothering me THAT much! )

I am right with you. I am devastated to lose my last name. But I am doing it for FH. It's not that I don't like his name. I am just sad to lose it.

I feel the same, I’ve spent 26 years proud of my latin last name, now I will be with an America surname and it’s weird..

I don't mind changing names atleast my new one people can pronounce. It is just hard to get used to. At the bank I had to fill out name change forms but I kept signing the forms with my maiden name and had to fill them out twice.

I feel the same way. I'm not hyphenating my last name but i'm not legally dropping my maiden name. I'm from Spain and there we keep our maiden names and add your married name. I will go by Mrs. Fuller but there is some comfort in knowing that Shea will still be there.

I think it's definitely normal, I am having some apprehensions about it as well...my FH is very traditional in that aspect as well..

Yes, I completely understand. I actually went last week to change my name officially. My DH is tradition as well and although I really wanted to take his last name it was hard to lose mine. I have been known as Jodi R^%$$ my whole life...
so when I went to Social Security to officially change my name I dropped my middle name which was Ann and now I use my maiden name as my middle name. It made me feel a little bit better.

Re: Its Official: The Name Change process has begun
I so did not feel this way. My first day back to work after the wedding i changed my email address to be my new name. The day after the marriage license came in the mail i went straight to social security to change my name there and then the following day went to the DMV and then walked straight to the bank and changed my name there.
I absolutely love signing my new last name and I love really being Mr. and Mrs. same last name.

Yeah its got to be hard. I think in a way i will feel that too because I am my fathers only child so after my name is changed there will be no other childeren with that last name. For you entire life you were known with that last name. But i look at it this way you name be changed in writting but inside you will always have that name.

I'm sure I'll feel the same way, but his is so much shorter than mine. So that will be a plus. I have to squeeze my name on the lines when signing anything.

Re: Its Official: The Name Change process has begun
I was excited to officially change it when we got back from our honeymoon, so excited!
But, well, now that it's been almost 3 months, it still feels really weird (especially at work) and well, it's harder to spell than my old last name (and it's only 1 letter shorter). I used answer the phone at work hello, Alison X, but, it feels weird now that it's Alison Y so a lot of times I am just Alison from NY or Alison from X company depending on who I am calling!
