i really dont know what to do. i was supposed to book my hall yesterday and this is keeping me from doing it. i am so mad, i'm not going to be able to make everyone happy. my fmil and ffil are paying for the reception, so i feel i have to do what they want. i don't know, i'm so confused. i had originally wanted a reception to start at around 5 or 6 and end at 11, but the watermill doesn't offer that, but i fell in love with the watermill and now i'm having a tough time deciding.

Re: it's starting already!!!
As far as the kids go, our's is the evening ( at watermill, reception ends at 1 am) and so far( a year in advance) all the kids parents have already made arrangements for the kids to be picked up early...but they are just the 7 kids in the bridal party and 2 others so its not so many. the latest any of the kids are staying is ten o clock , and thats my 13 yr old Junior BM...

we felt way too restricted with time and minimum guest requirements at the majority of places, that is why we wound up booking where we did. make a list of what is most important to you and come to a conclusion based on your priorities. this whole process is one big compromise, this is only the beginning...
you don't HAVE to do what your FIL's want, but i would come up with a logical argument if what you want is different from what they want to keep the peace...

You can't have the reception slightly earlier? (I realize you may not because it is often dictated by the venue)
I prefer night weddings but some guests will leave early.
For a day wedding - some guests will skip the church because they are running late.
Do what you want. There is a valid reason to do either time.
