It's time for suggest a hall once again!

Original post by MrHostility

I'll list all the places I have been, you list a place I should go. The only rules are I have 100 people, and it has to be under $110 a plate w/ tax and tip. It would likely be in Sept-December, and has to be at night. Pref Sat, Fri, Sun, in that order. Also, I really am not a fan of old styling, like Westbury Manor, for example. We're more into stuff like Villa Lombardi, Jericho Terrace, Larkfield...

Nassau:
Coral House - Not us
Crest Hollow CC - Prom was there, I'd like elsewhere
Fox Hollow - Was a top choice, a few issues though
Jericho Terrace - Was a top choice, a few issues
Leonard's - Nice, but almost too much
Lido Golf - Heard bad stuff
Manor East - Not us, at all
North Ritz - Minimum issues
Riviera - Lady is a b**** to deal with
Sand Castle - FW did not like it, I thought it was ok
Milleridge - Cocktail and Dinner same room....no
Westbury Manor - Not my style at all
Woodbury CC - Eh
Floral Terrace - Minimum people issue

Suffolk:
Atlantica - Minimum and Price
Beach Club - Heard horrible things, enough to say no
Chateu La Mer - Not for us
Eastwind - FW didn't like it at all, I thought it was ok
Georgios - Minimum issues
Larkfield Manor - One of the top choices, small cocktail room
Majestic Gardens - Been there, not overly impressed, but nice
Mediterranean Manor - Not us
The Meadow Club - Cocktail room was eh...
Thatched Cottage - Heard it might go under
Villa Lombardi - Top choice, issues with minimums
Watermill - Cousin married here, FW dislikes it
Windows On The Lake - Look at Beach Club comment

I know I'm a pain in the ass with this stuff at this point, but I'm struggling here.

Places we will likley visit, Chateu Briand, Swan Club...

The Snapper Inn's food is good and the grounds on the Connetquot River are pretty. As far as I know they only have an outdoor facility for the weddings but its a smaller size so I am sure the minimums would not be a problem.

so you are back looking again? oh boy!!!

I am still curious what's wronge with Watermill, but you like Larkfield maner (I have not been there in yeeeeeeears, but not a huge fan of there?)

LaGrange, not my style, low ceiling, FH did not like.

Maybe Irish Coffee Pub?
Molley Mallones??

What happened to the places you do like?

Watermill FW is SO set against, I'm really not sure why. My cousin's wedding was nice, but she has an unnatural vendetta against it. If she has already made up her mind, there is no reason to take her there...trust me, I know from experience. *Cough* The sandcastle *Cough*

Low Ceiling bother me too, since I'm 6'4 I like higher ceilings.

Yeah, I try to be involved. I have lots of free time at work, and this is what's pretty much on my mind. Feels weird to be one of the only dudes on here, and if you saw me you wouldn't think I'd care about this much. I just want the best day possible for my FW(LovelyL).

That's so sweet!! My FH is a lurker and a closet LI Weddings Groom!

You are sooo not living up to your name, Mr. Hostility!!

We had 150 in the big room at Larkfield, but I know that there are smaller rooms in the back- and you can probably still have your CH in the patio area if they dont have another wedding booked. Yes, I am biased too but I had a wonderful experience there. Its not like the larger halls, when I walked in or called, they knew me (by name) right away, and treated me & DH like family.

I went to see 17 halls before booking...San Souci is nice for a small wedding, although the area around it is not great IMO. THe hall itself is beautiful, but the drive up is by all these industrial areas, so its up to you if that matters. I have also heard good things about George Washington Manor in Roslyn and John Anthonys on the Water.

Thank you! I could not find the link anywhere, even google!

Larkfield is still very high in the running. I think it's a nice place, but the manager there is a little overbearing I guess? My mom loves it the best so far, but she didn't see all too many, including Villa Lombardi.

What about Russo's on the Bay? They're supposed to have great food.

Did you try Stewart Manor? I'm not sure if it'd be your taste compared to the places you seemed to like. You could see how it looks on their site: http://www.stewartmanor.com

Someone said 'I couldn't afford dessert' at Russo's, for $110pp w/ tax and tip. Kinda a rude comment, but hey, I'm guilty of that too sometimes.

It couldn't hurt to check. Maybe if it's in winter, it'd be lower too because a lot of halls lower their prices during that time.

Re: It's time for suggest a hall once again!

If there is a place you really love, but can;t afford, I would check anyway. We went to a place in Jersey that was gorgeous and very pricey, moreso that Russo's. They had some cancellations, so the guy offered us a couple of dates that were almost half the price. We ended up not booking because it was too far and the dates were not convenient for us, but if you really like somewhere, go check it out. Another reception hall we went to lowered the price considerably on Mother's Day. Even the Garden City Hotel was a lot cheaper in the winter months.

Tell the guy it is out of your price range once he gives you the prices, and then ask if there are any dates that would be cheaper. You may get lucky.

Re: It's time for suggest a hall once again!

You are around my price range, and growing up in Howard Beach I know that Russos is signifigantly over $110 pp. You can try for a Sunday, but I dont think it will be that different.

Which manager did you deal w. at Larkfield? If Frank is overbearing, ask for Joe, hes a really nice guy and very laid back. Frank is very old school, has a little goomba in him which I liked, but is not for everyone

I dont know if you are into Queens, but Terrace on the Park is beautiful and w.in your range.

I had such a BAD opinion of Larkfield, I used to go to league Volleyball dinners there in HS and thought it was so cheesy! THey have remodeled and I was there in May when I was in a wedding and I have to say it far exceded my expectations of it!

I can say that if it was just the BM that threw you off I would keep it in mind! My FH LOVES the food there it was sooo good, and they brought seconds! The desert was soo good although I didnt have the cake! They were so attentive to all of us the BP included! They even gave us slippers through the night as they noticed that the BP started slipping off their shoes! THe only bad thing? A Bartender quit DURING the CH, I only knew because I happened to be standing next to him as he got mad threw his apron and left through the side gate! The bride didnt know until the following day!

HOW ABOUT JOHN ANTHONY'S

violet Posted:

Re: It's time for suggest a hall once again!

I don't know. My sister went to Russo's a few years ago for a quote, and it was $75 for a Sunday, and she was doing it in October. That's why she told me I should at least call for a quote.

or the harbor club
MrHostility Posted:

Re: It's time for suggest a hall once again!

I thought John Anthony's had some trouble with money? Also, it's where FW had her prom, so I don't know how cool she'd be with that. Might check it out anyway.
