It's time for suggest a hall once again!

Original post by MrHostility

I'll list all the places I have been, you list a place I should go. The only rules are I have 100 people, and it has to be under $110 a plate w/ tax and tip. It would likely be in Sept-December, and has to be at night. Pref Sat, Fri, Sun, in that order. Also, I really am not a fan of old styling, like Westbury Manor, for example. We're more into stuff like Villa Lombardi, Jericho Terrace, Larkfield...

Nassau:
Coral House - Not us
Crest Hollow CC - Prom was there, I'd like elsewhere
Fox Hollow - Was a top choice, a few issues though
Jericho Terrace - Was a top choice, a few issues
Leonard's - Nice, but almost too much
Lido Golf - Heard bad stuff
Manor East - Not us, at all
North Ritz - Minimum issues
Riviera - Lady is a b**** to deal with
Sand Castle - FW did not like it, I thought it was ok
Milleridge - Cocktail and Dinner same room....no
Westbury Manor - Not my style at all
Woodbury CC - Eh
Floral Terrace - Minimum people issue

Suffolk:
Atlantica - Minimum and Price
Beach Club - Heard horrible things, enough to say no
Chateu La Mer - Not for us
Eastwind - FW didn't like it at all, I thought it was ok
Georgios - Minimum issues
Larkfield Manor - One of the top choices, small cocktail room
Majestic Gardens - Been there, not overly impressed, but nice
Mediterranean Manor - Not us
The Meadow Club - Cocktail room was eh...
Thatched Cottage - Heard it might go under
Villa Lombardi - Top choice, issues with minimums
Watermill - Cousin married here, FW dislikes it
Windows On The Lake - Look at Beach Club comment

I know I'm a pain in the ass with this stuff at this point, but I'm struggling here.

Places we will likley visit, Chateu Briand, Swan Club...

John Anthony's and Harbor Club were both having probs since they used to be owned by the same person. I recently heard that matters were being settled and Cocos and Harbor Club would remain as is and JAs would probably change.

If everything works out with Harbor Club, I second them! They were our second choice but there was too much debate about its future last year.

Also, I've heard really great things about Port Jeff Country Club. I think Sans Souci is in the neighborhood of what you're looking for too.

Good Luck!

Someone mentioned Stewart Manor, while I thought it was a nice place, if you don't like 'old' style places, chances are, you won't like SM. Check out the pics on their website. Stewart Manor
Same goes for GW Manor, I'm getting married there, and I LOVE it, but it's old fashioned, and if you did not like Milleridge, you won't like GWM. Also, their cocktail room is very very small, I'm praying that it does not rain so we can have ours outside. If you want to look at pics anyway, here's their site.
Same goes for Swan Club, definitely old style, and the smaller room has a VERY weird layout, like half the tables are up a few stairs on a different level, and half the tables are right next to the dance floor.
A hall that I really liked was Captain Bills, but I hated how the woman pretty much brushed us off (why, I don't know...) when we went to look. But, I have heard great things about it. I think that you need more than 100 people to use the really beautiful room which is in a separate building than the restaurant. If you have a small party, you have to use the room in the back of the restaurant, which was really pretty, but nowhere near as beautiful as the other room. (this might not be the case on Sundays, or off season, it might be worth a call) One other thing that I didn't like was how the room seemed to overlook a dockyard? It was waterfront, but there were boats docked everywhere, and it kind of took away from the view.
As for Larkfield, I really liked it, I hated Frank, and I hated that small cocktail room, that's pretty much what stopped me from booking them. The cocktail room for the bigger parties is WAY nicer, and I like how they can go outside as well.

Re: It's time for suggest a hall once again!

I checked out Russo's for May 2005.

We were quoted:
Sun night 100/pp, Sat night 120/pp, Fri night 90/pp

$6/pp extra for 1/2 vianese or $12/pp extra for full vianese

Just thought I'd throw that out there cuz it's comparible to many other places in price but everyone seems to think it's so much more. Maybe that's because they offer so many add-ons and some people do spend much more after customizing their package.

I'm with Darly - but we are both biased The Metropolitan (in Glen Cove) is beautiful and reasonable. I'm getting married there in September and Eileen is fantastic.

I went to see a lot of places too - I would recomend:

The Sans Souci in Sea Cliff
The Crescent Beach Club in Bayville (BEAUTIFUL but might be $$)
The DeSevresky Center in Old Westbury (Beautiful old mansion)

Good Luck!!

I'd really rather stay away from places that might have problems with finances. I can hardly afford this wedding as is, let alone get screwed out of money.

As for Frank at Larkfield...he's very, I dunno. Gruff isn't really the word for it...I can't place it. The cocktail hour would be in the room with the exterior available, but since it's in November, that might not matter if it's freezing.

Thanks for the ideas so far. Russo's might even be too far for people out east to travel.

Did you ever call Areca? They might be able to work with you on minimums and price if you're looking off-season or for Friday or Sunday night. Another option is maybe they (or any hall you like) might take something out of the cocktail hour and lower the price (I know some places are willing to do this). Can't hurt to call and check, right?

We really loved the holbrook country club. it is on the smaller side, but will def fit 100. price is great and we booked w/only a 50min and got a Sat night for a great price.

I love the gazebo..

Floral Terrace is out:

Friday evening minimums are 175 guests and saturday evenings are 200 guests. We need a minimum of 125 guests for and afternoon reception.

how about sail harbor, in bayville?

i was quoted $90 pp, i dont remember though if it was for a sat or sun. but it was for november. you might be able to get away with a lower minimum. it doesnt have much property wise, though and the bridal suite was very small in my opinion, but its worth checking out. i really liked the main ballroom.

I have to say, you should check out Stonebridge Country Club in Happauge. The min. is 100 people and that is for a Saturday night. You may also want to check out Three Village Inn in Stony Brook. GOOD LUCK!!

I see you have not been to Lands End in Sayville or Cresant Beach in Bayville Harbor Club in Huntington I would stay away from larkfield We went to wedding there and a guest at our table found a cig butt in her pasta It made me sick. The ladies rooms were also very dirty from a wedding the night before. There are so many places on the water in the same price range as larkfield which is on a parking lot in the middle of traffic
