Ok here's my story, a couple of weeks ago I receive a mail indicating that I have won a sweepstake( 3rd prize winning of $120,000 thousand dollars). I immediately called FH and told him about, he implied that we will talk about it later since he's at work, ok fine. Like he said we talk about it when he came home and I decided not to look into it, but he insist that I call; so the next day I did, I spoke to this lady and she confirm that I have won $120,000( WHAT $120,000) ok that's freaking awesome, so I started asking her questions and all her answers were satifactory to me. Ok here's the catch, they sent me a check for $1,997 and asked me to cash it then send it via moneygram back to them to cover taxes and fees so I did (stupid I know) but i was sold, she made it sound so real, I think im not the only idiot that was taken away by this offer.
So today I went online to my account and realize that my account was missing $1,997 after I have taken out $1,997 a couple of days ago to send out too them. OK WHAT THE HELL. I imediatelly called my bank and they told me that the check i have deposit was cleared but returned back to me, OK, AGAIN WHAT THE HELL, how can a bank clear a check without validating the check first, this *** on the phone indicated that the bank is only allow to hold a check for a length of time before they release the funds without validating the check, after hearing that I really felt like an IDIOT.
So to make a long story short, Im crying my eyes out because I have been taken for a ride I just lost $2,000 and I want it back. What hurts me the most I really didn't believe that they are people out there that would do this to me and WHY ME? to make it worst my mom calls me while im crying and ask me why im crying and I cant even that her anything because she will be like 'ARE YOU THAT STUPID, you don't have anything better to do with $2000 then to give it away' mind you I still have alot of vendors to payoff.
The bad thing is Im still crying I CANT BELIEVE. sry, long but I had to share, please lady's be aware, don't be a greed like I was.

I am so, so sorry that this happened to you. I would consult with a lawyer to see if you have a chance of recovering any of the money. Also file a police report and meet with a bank manager to discuss options.

this is a huge scam. it's the same people that do the nigeria scams. i don't think you have much recourse. they are actually doing a special report on dateline on these scams recently.
i'm really sorry it happened to you.

**CLOSE OUT THAT ACCOUNT AND ANY ACCOUNT YOU HAVE IN CONNECTION TO IT.**
keep a very very watchful eye on all your accounts (checking, savings,cc) for the next couple of years. sounds harsh but you HAVE to do it!
Also contact the the district attorney's office to file a complaint against the person/company you sent the money to (obviously it wouldnt be her real name). This complaint may turn up other complaints and the DA would be more opt to persue it.
I was involved in a scam regarding a personal loan a few years back and lost 2000. I am still waiting on any word. Did you send the money internationally or nationally?

im sorry that happened to you! this type of scam is really a new thing.. I rent out an apt and put it on craigs list and everytime i put it on there i get 1 or 2 emails from a person claiming that they are from out of the country and their employer is sending a check to cover security/1st month which is 2k...they send a fake check for more then is required and they say their job made a mistake and to send them back the refund..well in the end the check is fake and by the time you realize it the remainder of the money is already sent back to them..i called the police and they cant do anything about it since its out of the US .. thats really horrible though..i hope it works out!!

I am so sorry.. is there anyway you can get in contact with these people and scare them. i would google the name of the person who scammed you , I am sure you are not the only one. i can almost guarantee there must be another law suit out for them.... you could maybe join. I am sorry.... it will come back to you somehow...

Re: Ive been a victim of a scam...kind of long
wow. that's so horrible. the worst thing is there is nothing you can do. something like that happened last year. I got a check for like $7000. it was supposed to be to go to London for a modeling job. it cashed and I was like wow. I was supposed to send like $4000 back to them or something like that. before that I figured i'd wait since I wouldn't be traveling until 2 months later. I took out like $700-$1000 just for my trip to cali which was that month. a week later my mom (who cashed the check for me) said they took all the money back. the check was a fake check. so she was overdrawn by like a $1000. I already used it for cali so she just said keep it as an early bday present. imagine if I sent them the $4000? I think my mom might have killed me.
people like that are scumbags. of course once I emailed them they disapeared. it's sad they're now moving onto sweepstakes things. usually they want you to western union it. they always give you more money, and say oh send some of it back.
or those scams where they need help *cashing checks for them* they say you can keep $2000 if you cash their $10000, and send the rest back. whats sad is the bank trusts you, so it gives you the money early to help you out. than a week or 2 later they say okay fake check and take it back. and worst of all there is nothing you can do. the bank won't pay you back. the person disapears. if she gave you a name 100% positive it's probably a fake one. when we talked to the cops they said people buy a money order for $1.00 alter it to crazy amounts than have people cash it. send real money to them western union usually, then the check doesn't cash and only you got ripped off.
I would just tell your mom what happened. my mom was just so happy nothing bad really happened to me. I just hate how these people can get away with this stuff. I musta spent hours googling about these scams and reading peoples stories. and your def not the only person to ever fall for it. otherwise they would have given up by now.
