T-Mobile called and someone used my name, address, Social Security # and home phone to open a cell phone account. I have called for a credit report at this point but have to wait to see what the damage is.
Has this happened to anyone else - any advice?

Re: I've been a victim of identity theft!!!
I know a little about this- happened to my friend: 1st- pull a 3 way credit report - you can do it online with transunion , experian and equifax via free credit report (I will try to find link) & verify all the onfo on it. 2. Call the fraud department @ each of the opened accounts and have them document this issue and start an investigation 3. Inform the 3 major credit bureaus- transunion, experian and equifax that you have been a victim of ident. theft. 4. You may be required to file a police report. That sucks!!!! Good luck The 3 way credit report can be obtained @ free credit report - its free for one but about 40.00 for the 3 way credit report We pull up 1 a year just to keep track of everything Edited to make sense!

I'm so sorry! I have not had this happen to me, but I am always worried that I too would become a victim. Here's some info on what you should do. Identity Theft Info

OH I have been the victim.. someone used my name, address, SS# and all that to open credit card accounts at Sears(they became supicious and questioned the people and they left the merchandise in the store, so they really weren't that mad).... I got a call from Sears and on my way to the police department, to file a police report (which you should do, you'll most likely need a case # when the store does an investigation) I got a call from Nordstroms where they opened up another account and charged over $2000 in shoes... I was so upset.. call the three credit bureaus to alert them.. then a couple of days later I received a call from Home Depot and apparently they opened up a credit card there and charged $5000 worth of gift cards there.. hmmm. I would think it was suspicious, guess they didn't... so I was so upset...two days later another girl was using the temporary card at Nordstroms and she was luckily caught, but wasn't saying where she got the info from.. this all happened in October, thought it was all over with until I received a call a couple of weeks ago from a detective saying someone used my license #, but someone elses name and SS#(since mine would come up with a red flag) to open up accounts, but this time it wasn't too bad, since it was only my license #... all in all, this is happening to so many people lately! I felt so violated, but the companies have been very cooperative, and haven't been held accountable... definately get the free credit report... I had credit cards popping up all over the place once I realized... so sorry to hear! FM me if you need any information...

Re: I've been a victim of identity theft!!!
I haven't had my identity stolen. But someone recently was able to access my bank accounts and transfer $7,000 out of my accounts. Thankfully, Citibank thought it was suspicious and held the funds. We got our money back, but it is a scary thought that this could happen. After, this incident I immediatley went on equifax.com and ordered a credit report. Thankfully, there was no suspicious activity.
I have no considered signing up for the equifax service that monitors for this, but being the procrastinator that I am, I haven't done it yet.
