Everytime I find a place to go for the HM i look on that website and someones review scares me away.. I guess not everyplace can make everyone happy but like some of the bad reviews can really ruin your whole trip... Grrrr..
Well our plans so far are to spend like 5 days in WDW and then fly to Puerto Rico and take a cruise to the south caribbean or go to the Dominican Republic to an AI resort. If we do the cruise we are also going to spend a night or two in San Juan . My problem is I cant find the 'perfect' cruise or AI.. Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking the Carnival Destiny out of San Juan since it stops overnight in the DR, but ive read alot of shaky reviews about it.

Don't put too much faith in those websites - remember that a lot of people only come on to complain if they're p-o'd about something. I'm sure the bulk of people who go to those places, except for a unique few, go and have a great time and never write anything about it.

OMG Yes, stop reading trip advisor! It really will make you go crazy! If you do want to look at reviews, just look at the most recent and see what the general consensus is. You can look up the most expensive, most grand place ever and someone will have given it one star!

You are right, not everyplace can make anyone happy at the same time.
DH and I had a trip booked to Los Cabos and the resort didn't get great reviews on trip advisor. I looked at them a little more closely and the complaints really equivalent to the score in my eyes (the people were being pretty harsh when their only complaint was the lobby was crowded when it was time to check out - it was an AI wtih most people staying Sat-Sat so obviously, the lobby is going to be crowded on check out day - those people gave the place 1 star). DH and I were very happy (and the lobby wasn't crowded when we checked out).

Take everything you read on there with a grain of salt.
Remember that people will always be more vocal when their complaining about something. Read the most reviews and look it as a whole. If people are writing complaining about a crowded lobby or because they didn't get the exact room they wanted, then it's all venting....

remember that there is no way to know if the bad reviews are comming from a real person or a competitor property. And some people really are nitpickers!!
There are beautiful place in DR. Some that FH and I looked into are the Paradisus Palma Real, and the excellence. Both look beyond!!!

sometimes those reviews help (if they have pics or recs on places at a resort to go to) and a lot of times they don't.
i also think that somtimes ppl post bad reviews there who might be the competition looking to hurt another business!

My mother is a TA and she told me that Trip Advisor is definitely not reliable. In fact, she said many times posters get a fee for what they write.
If you are nervous about what you are booking, definitely speak with a TA. They can advise you as to what is good and what is not-so-good. Good luck!

hi for my Hm i'm going to Aruba then flying to San Juam to catch a cruise royal Carribean America of the seas, And we actually used trip advisor for both aruba and the cruise for reviews, I have yet to see a bad review regarding our cruise.. maybe you can look into the one were taking its a souther cruise, stoping at st. marten, st. thomas, aruba and cruracao

someone with a good reiview will tell 3 people.. someone with a bad review will till 300!! it's just the way things work.. if it's a bad situation u want EVEVRYONE TO KNOW so they don't go through it or even more so u ruin the company the hotel, the cruise line and the country so no one ever ever ever goes back....
if u have a good time.. u come home tell u'r mom, u'r best friends and u'r co worker..
ignore tripadvisor.. save the stress for something else!!
oh and i just came back on a carnival cruise and i thought it was divine!! wasn't the destiny but it was still SOO GREAT!!

I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY THIS!!! people usually take the time to complain, but not to give agood review. I do find trip advisor to be helpful, but take it with a grain of salt.
look at reviews for a place you LOVED. youll see people were unhappy there as well..

Oh can anyone recommend a good travel agent in Suffolk County (near Port Jeff area). I am definately going to need one for our planned itinerary.

I can't tell you how many times, I changed a rez bc of the reviews I read on there.
My FH proposed to me on a Southern Caribbean cruise out of San Juan. We were on the Crown Princess. IMO (I've only been on two cruises) Carnival is much more of a party ship (The Destiny just went under a HUGE renovation). Princess is more 'older' and 'classy'... Friends of ours have taken the Destiny cruise and still say that it was their fav vaca...

Don't rely too much on those reviews. I do have to say that I was on the Destiny in '03 and it was run down. Unless the renovated it since then...i wouldn't recommend it. HTH
