I've spent the last day crying...

Last night when FH got back from the police academy (he just started this past MOnday), he told me that he was assigned to the night tour. That means from 3:30- midnight . OMG! I am devastated! I am a teacher so I get home at 4 and I go to bed at 11 the latest (when I'm not on liw). I can't believe this is happening. When am I ever going to see him?

argh......

I know its hard to adjust to, but its really not that bad. I also work from 8-4. Fh works from 5:30-1:30, but leaves for work at 4 and gets home at 2. I only get to really see him on Sundays and for an hour or so on the weekends when he gets home and before I fall asleep.

I'm not going to lie. It is hard in the beginning. I had a breakdown, hysterical crying about not seeing him. But its for good reasons, he's out there making a living and trying to better himself for you and him.

i am sorry...that is def tough...my brother in law had to do this at first as well but as time went on, he got better hours...ill keep my fingers crossed that as time goes on, he will get a better schedule...also once you become used to the change, and i am not at all minimizing it, you will get into a routine and make it work...

6 LONG months and our wedding is
in less than 3!

It really bites because I am so freaking attached to him and we've spent the last 6 months together 24 hrs a day b/c we worked together.

And it also bites b/c he always helps me at night w/ the wedding planning.

No freaking honeymoon either! We will have to wait til he is assigned to a precinct to figure out the honeymoon situation. At christmas time we went to the dominican republic b/c we needed a vacay before teh academy began. all i know is it better be worth it in the end.

FH is a cop on LI and when we first sated dating he work 7 at night to 7 in the morning. It worked. It actually made us spend more quality time together.

Now he works a rotating schedule where works nights one week and days another.

It will workout. If you are lonely FM me!! Cop wives have to stick together!!!

Its hard to adjust, but me and FH were like that for a while. When i he got out of work, i would go to work, and by the time i got home, we basically just went to bed, or he was already in bed.
its hard to adjust, but you will get used to it and have days off together, i see it like this, the bills have to be paid somehow, and if you cant change the schedule then you can work with it

It is tough but you will find the time. Just think about all of the holidays and breaks you have coming up.

Awe! Just think about how much better it will be once you see each other all the time. That's how I got through 4 years of long distance. It will definitely be worth it in the end!!!

I think the ones first starting get the worst shifts to start off with.

I'm sure that things will work out- FH and I got totally diffrent schedules and it works out somehow for us.

Re: I've spent the last day crying...

let me start off by saying im really sorry to hear your upset and he got the night shift.

My FH was in the NYPD academy a year and a half ago right after we got engaged. at the time i was goin to school and work from like 8am-7pm and FH got the 7am-3pm shift in the academy.. and it ended up working out great by the time he got off the train it as like 5 so i was home shortly after.. I thought i had it made things would be great.. Well it was short lived once out of the academy he got the 4pm-12am shift in his pct. and well i NEVER see him. since i go to school from 730am-230pm and work from 3-8 so hes already gone for work by the time i get home. and we dont live together so i really go at least 5 days with out seeing him. I try and tell my self its not forever but it does stink. Just try and stick it out theres a good chance he will get the day shift once he gets to his pct. but just be aware once they graduate they get 6 months of impact which is in a high volume area and its most likely a 6pm-2am shift. FH had that as well for 6 months.

im sorry your bummed it does stink especially when your used to him being around so often. but you will get used to it. and if you live together it wont be so bad ou will see each other when he gets home.

Sorry for the book just trying to let you know you have support im going through the same thing. If you need anything even if its just to talk please dont hesiate to FM me!
