I've spent the last day crying...

Original post by the future mrs m

Last night when FH got back from the police academy (he just started this past MOnday), he told me that he was assigned to the night tour. That means from 3:30- midnight . OMG! I am devastated! I am a teacher so I get home at 4 and I go to bed at 11 the latest (when I'm not on liw). I can't believe this is happening. When am I ever going to see him?

Gosh I can relate.. FH and I have opposite schedules ever since we met.. and it was not easy at all especially since we live far away from each other..
It's going to be very hard, but it'll get better and hopefully his peers would understand that he is newly married and be a little more considerate I hope..
I'm sorry you are in this situation, it su**ks big time but it shall pass..

That really stinks but hopefully that wont be for long. The academy will be over in 6 months then his hours can change right? My friends husband is probably in the same class as your FH and he is working nights too, He started this past monday also.

Don't worry it will work out! FH was in the academy when they had to work Saturdays and Sundays and his schedule rotated days one week and then nights the next week and it was really hard!!! Now he works midnight to 8 am and it was really hard to make it work at first, but we found a way!! GL!!

Don't worry you will find a way to make time for each other. My Fh still works from 3pm to 11pm and I work from 8-4, but we are making it work. It takes a little while to get used to, but the weekends will be way more fun.

I am also a teacher and my FH just got out of the academy -- he was on the night tour, too.
We hardly ever saw each other during the week and it caused more than a few arguments. We also don't live together, which made it worse. I felt like I waited so long to become engaged and there I was going to expos and food tastings alone (well, with family and friends but you know what I mean). Then on the weekends he had to study and write papers and train for the physical tests and I really began to feel like it was driving us apart. At one point I was like f the NYPD and I just wanted him to go back to the FDNY. We talked about it and he began to drop by my job for lunch and he would e-mail me and text message me as often as possible.
Looking back now I realize that he felt like we under tremendous pressure and that he wasn't intentionally putting the academy before me -- but it really s u c k e d for a while there.
Anyway, it's over now -- it went by a lot faster than I thought it would.
Hang in there!

You'll get used to it. FH works 3-11:30 Monday thru Friday. I work M-F 8-5 and Sat 7-1. So we only see each other Saturdays late and Sundays. Just enjoy the time you have with him (and talk as much as you can on the phone!!!)

I'm sorry Is he off for a few days in a row and do those days rotate?

No, Monday- Friday til midnight every day. So that means I need to cancel the 9 pm dinner reservations for this friday cuz he'll still be @ teh academy. :(

It stinks! But at least you'll have weekends. My FH works rotating days 9pm to 7 am. when he's coming, I'm walking out & when i get home he's sleeping & gets up when it's time for him to go.
