What color shirts are your GM and FH wearing? I was going to go with an ivory shirt but I was just on the knot and they were saying that the GM shirts in ivory could look dirty.

I heard one one of the wedding boars that a classic whit tuxedo shirt would never look bad no matter what color the brides dress is HTH

Here's the thing, when you wear ivory and he wears white, your dress could potentially look dirty. I am wearing Ivory, he is wearing an Ivory shirt and a champagne vest, they are all wearing Ivory shirts. HTH

I've heard the same thing that if the groom wears a white shirt than an ivory dress looks dirty. I have an ivory/blush dress & all guys are wearing ivory shirts

FH is under strict instructions to have an ivory shirt!! Even though my dress is a light ivory, I don't want it to look dirty next to his shirt in pics.

Re: Ivory and Off White Brides
My dress is ivory silk, which is very light ivory...i am just having the guys wear white shirts...i never expected ivory to be such a pain...ivory veil, ivory shoes, ivory ring pillow, ivory tulle for the favors, aaaahhhhh...
*You're having a wedding, not a photo shoot. A wedding is an event involving real people that will also be photographed and often, filmed. You're not staging an event just to be photographed and filmed or costuming actors to play a role. Which means that you really shouldn't stress about whether your father-in-law's ivory tie will clash with the bridesmaids' champagne dresses in the pictures or if your fiancé's shirt needs to be the exact same shade as your dress, unless you have a Raggedy Ann and Andy theme in play. You're having a party for people to enjoy, not a photo shoot with models. Make it your priority to focus on doing whatever it takes to make the actual event wonderful, and the pictures will reflect that. If you find yourself asking, 'But how will it look in pictures?', think again. 'Is this what I want for my wedding?' is a much healthier question. In other words, aim for a great wedding, not just a perfect-looking record of one. Besides, you should banish the word 'perfect' from your wedding vocabulary unless you're talking about your spouse. (And a special footnote about the eternal white shirt/ivory dress 'crisis': a man in a crisp white tuxedo shirt can never, ever be out of style, no matter what the woman standing next to him is wearing.)

Helen, my dress is diamond white, so I don't know what to do. Are you having your GM's wear ivory shirts also?

Re: Ivory and Off White Brides
Sometimes ivory dresses are not as ivory as the shirts....MY FH and his GMs are wearing white shirts because my dress is a light ivory...I didn't want his shirt to look to creamy.

I have an ivory dress, FH is wearing a white shirt with an ivory tie and vest- I wasnt crazy about the ivory shirt, it kinda looked dingy (IMO) and I liked this look better- the GM are also wearing white shirts

Re: Ivory and Off White Brides
my dress was a true ivory. My groom/husband wore a WHITE shirt, with an ivory vest. I was skeptacle....but it was PERFECT. I'm in the fashion bus., so I know.... white shirt, ivory vest/ivory tie.......that's it!
BM and Dad of bride wore the same.....but instead of an ivory tie, a black tie. Boutenirres were a white cala lily w/muscari for groom; mascari on its own for Dad of Bride and BM.

Re: Ivory and Off White Brides
my gown is VERY ivory... almost a cream color, and FH is wearing a white shirt... To follow the matchy-matchy theroy, not only would the BP be forbidden from wearing white, but also my uncles, FFIL, and the rest of our family... think about it.... ANY white could make an ivory gown look 'un-white'. You would also have to restrict anyone from smiling who recently had their teeth whitened sorry, I'm being silly...but you get my point
Since my gown is a gorgeous cream color, I actually embrace the contrast with stark white... I want it to look the shade that it is....

FH is going to wear a white shirt and ivory tie and vest, GMs are wearing white shirt with black tie and vest....now I'm thinking I should consider an ivory shirt for FH.

reading this post is really making me think maybe the ivory shirts for guys would be too dark....since my dress is organza, the ivory is pretty light. Now I'm all kinds of confused lol!!! My dress will be in this week, maybe I'll go to his tux store with a swatch of my dress and see what their ivory shirts look like. I know this seems ridiculous, but so is most of the detail oriented decisions that go into wedding planning!!! Let's not kid ourselves people!!

White shirts. A white shirt goes with anything, it won't make your dress look odd. It's like navy dresses looking good with black tuxes.
