JA's Birthday Party REVIEW =)
Well after so much planning and after a whole year of thinking 'His First Birthday' Was WORLDS AWAY, my baby boy is now ONE !
Very amazing how fast time flies, very emotional for a mommy, and very exciting and memorable to have so many special people all together in one place at once...
The weather couldnt have been better! We were able to enjoy the backyard and spread out between in the house and out. My mom helped with most of the cooking, my sis and I also did some. and John did some BBQing and lots of other prepwork...
We had one good little scare. My cousins son (18m) RAN onto the pool cover...
As if it were a trampoline, he was having the TIME of his life jumping up and down. and we tried to remain calm and lure him off at the same time (yeah right! keep trying). He jumped to his hearts content with about 10 of us calling his name. Thank God I really feel good about the quality of the pool-cover we have (LoopLoc) and I know how sturdy and well made it is (its the one that advertises with the elephant on it
) But still, just the mere SIGHT of a precious fun-loving 18m old, with no fears in the world, jumping on it, scared us silly. His mom saw that I was keeping pretty calm, and assuring her that he'd be ok, but of course she couldnt help but panic... He ran in circles, and then he got to the center of it, where its mesh, and water seeps through a bit, and water got to his sneakers, and thats when his mom started to go on it too. (we didnt want to run onto it, because the weight of an adult on it, might have thrown off his balance and scared him) so she was able to kinda squat and reach for him, a few of us were on all ends ready to grab him as he ran in circles, and finally, MOMMY caught him... It was all over in about 2 minutes, but it seemed like an hour!
I am SO GRATEFUL that my hubby buys top of the line in alot of things, even if I may freak out that the prices are outrageous. This pool cover is nailed to the ground and extremely sturdy. Its probably the most expensive one on the market. There are MANY others (like the one that we had for the 1st year here, that the previous owners left), that with the weight of an adult, will probably have easily slipped in to the water, and God knows what could have happened. I thank God that nothing serious happened. Next year, with a toddler
we plan to gate the pool before we open it. Absolute must.
Sorry about that tangent, some things just really 'stay with you' and I feel like they happen for a reason, as a wake-up call, reality check, and 'count your blessings' type thing...
This same precious cousin (the mommy) is the one that made the painting for JA. I will take pics of it, as well as upload pics from the party, this week and post them all. She did an amazing job. Its a painting of Mickey, Donald and Goofy playing instruments and holding up OUR Flag
It was one of the most touching gifts JA received.
Everything turned out great. The kids had fun, we had Mickey as a guest visitor. He came twice (we rented the costume for the day, so we can have it all day and when we were ready). We had a pinyata and some kiddie games, all which were fun..
The the LIW gals that came, it meant so much to us that you were able to share in such a special day with John Anthony
and to those that couldnt make it, we understand and love you just the same
John Anthony was exhausted by the end of the night. He opened his gifts (or should I say, his cousins did
) and its now like Christmas morning in my great room
Of course with all the cool new toys laying around, he plays with the balloons, his wipes box and a book
as John works feverishly nailing and mounting more toys (I think it was more for daddy to play
)
He got lots of wonderful gifts and sweet cards from everyone.
Needless to say, I broke down during the 'Happy Birthday' song...
If youve read all this way, thanks for letting me share!
