Re: Jetta owners??

I have a 2001 Jetta and so far (knock wood) it has been okay. I had a problem with the windows once and they replaced the part that broke with no charge and replaced the part on the other windows that hadn't broken.

Other than that, my DH prefers driving my Jetta to his BMW (same year)

DH has a 2000 Jetta and has had no problems...not even the window thing like everyone else...He loves driving it!

I don't own a Jetta but I do have a Passat. I love it and have had no problems so far.

I have a 2004 Jetta and no problems so far. Plus i really put mileage on it (have had it for six months and it already has 14K miles) so i definitely have used it to know how it runs.

I have a 2003 Jetta...no problems until recently...I've had to bring it in for the same transmission problem four times in the last six months, a section of lights on the dash goes out when its really cold..., the shock levers in my trunk had to be replaced bc I could not close the damn thing without assistance from a second person- it was that hard to push in, there is major creaking noise coming from the rear of the car...bringing that in to find out what the hell that is...I really loved my car when I got it...but I just think there is too much going on with a car that is 2 years old...I mean I am by far a crazy driver...I maintain my car regularly...I pay too much money a month to have to constantly be bringing it in to VW service...

I know the new Jettas are completely different...I'd wait if you can and see what kind of feedback they get...jmo...

We know someone who has a 2002 or 2003 and has had a lot of problems with the electrical system - so much so that she is trying to get out of the lease.

I have a 2002 Jetta and love it. It has its quirks but I think all cars do. I was in an accident with it last year and let me tell you that my little Jetta held up like a tank!

I had a 2001 and now I have a 2003 Jetta.

I had the window problem with the 2001, the check engine light problem (wouldn't shut off even after they 'fixed' the problem); and the center console clip broke. Other than that, I found that the brakes went far too quickly.

I've had none of those issues with my 2003 (knock on wood!) except for the center console clip breaking again.

I have a 2000 Jetta. My center console clip broke, also, in the first few months of buying the car, my brakes have worn down quicky, the thing that 'catches' the trunk broke, my check engine light is 'stuck' on, and my window thingie has broken TWICE, even after they supposedly replaced it with the one that wasnt supposed to break. Even though I have had my share of problems, I still love the car, lol, I must be crazy.

I had a 1997 Jetta and loved it! I almost got a new Jetta but I wasn't impressed with the dealerships! I was ready to buy but they took forever getting back to me. I ended up buying a saab. The only problem I had was the engine light coming on all the time and also, when it would rain, my car would stall. I'm pretty sure the newer cars do not have those problems.

ETA: My brother has one and he loves it! It is great on gas! He did have a problem early on but......I can't remember what. Sorry

you guys rock...you have all been so hlpful!! keep em coming...I think if I go with a Jetta I'm really going to try and lease so that if there is a problem I won't have to worry about them not fixing it...
I need to pay $200 a month to afford a new car...is anyone playing close to that??

I worked at a VW dealer from 97 to 99 and I know from seeing the same cars weekly in the service department that they had a lot of electrical Problems. Other than that they have stupid quirks. I dont know about the New Jetta....Maybe you should wait a year or two until they get all the bugs out of it.

You should buy a Corolla....It looks exactly like the Jetta and it is a Better car

My trunk thingie went also on my 2001!

AND I just got a recall thing in the mail today for my 2003 saying that there is a defect in some of the heated seats where it can malfunction and get really hot in one spot and damage things near it. They are fixing it for free of course but here we go again!

I think that is really good advice.....I've been looking at the corolla because FH has an avalon and he has never had any problems with it ('95 w/ 104,000 miles)

Any idea how cheap I can get one a month for on a lease??

Had a 2000 Jetta and I loved it. I wish I never sold it. I put 65K miles on it in two years, and it never gave me any problems.

Re: Jetta owners??

It all depends on what you put down. I know they were running a special on the corolla for $169 a month but that was with $1869 down plus tax and liscence....Probably around $4000 after all is said and done, and you never want to put that much down.

How about financing a less expensive car....Maybe a used car...for a few years till you can save a little more?

I bought a 2001 Chevy Prizm which is basically a toyota corolla.....I bought it in 2003 with 19k miles on it for $9300.

I put $3000 down and I pay $135 a month. It is a cheap car but it runs excellent and it is good on gas, also it is very reliable because it is made by toyota.

If you are interested, let me know....because I know the dealership to go to.
