They give very good appraisals, and as they should, do it right before you.
eta : the jeweler where DH bout the ring gave him an appraisal and then I took it Macy's to get a second appraisal. When I told DH the appraised value, his jaw dropped as the value came in higher. Cost was 10% of the value of the ring.

The Jewerly Judge prices are depending on karat, I can't remember the exact prices but it was around $100 for under 1 1/2 karats then $20 for every 1/2 karat after.....Thats a ball park..I cant remember the exact prices but when you call for an appt they give you the price......I HIGHLY recommend the Jewerly Judge!!

The jeweler where your FH bought it I think should have done it for free. (Our jeweler always gives us the appraisal when we buy something that needs one).

I used jewelry judge. They charge approx. $100/hour and you can bring in multiple pieces of jewlery if you have anything else you want appraised. They were great and took time to explain the details.

the jeweler that fh sized and cleaned my ring at did it for him ( it was my grandma's ring). You wanna talk about a bargain, it cost $120 to get it sized and cleaned and with the appraisal it is worth around $6000! Yeah...never could we afford that so we got lucky.
