we are having one though I am not sure we are actually rehearsing. Mostly because we are getting married at the RH so there is no place to rehearse.

This. We are calling it a Welcome DInner, but it may be a lunch instead since we probably have to invite about 50 people.

we had a dinner the night before, and the invitations said 'rehearsal dinner,' but we didn't actually rehearse (we never rehearsed at all - just kinda winged it the day of).

as for gifts... we gave them out at the bridal shower for the girls, and bachelor party weekend for the boys.

You can have a pre-wedding diner, just call it something else. Jews don't rehearse beforehand, but all of the weddings I have been to have had something.

I have been to a Shabbos dinner before, followed by a Shabbat kallah (kallah is bride in Hebrew) which was basically a sleepover at the brides house with the BMs, it was so much fun!

I have also been to a 'welcome' dinner for the out of town guests, and a 'get the party started' dinner (that's what the invites said!).

With the exception of the religious bride, all of the other dinners included the gift giving. The religious bride gave gifts out at the bachelorette party (though many observant brides won't even have a bachelorette party).

Didnt have one.

We gave out the gifts the day of (girls gifts were DOJ, and I paid for their hair and makeup. Guys gifts were personalized flasks with a bottle of their favorite liqour)
