Jewish brides help

I'm finding that ketubahs are very expensive and I'm starting to toy with the idea of creating my own...has anyone done this? or known someone that did?

LOl, its funny, one of my friends suggested that to me. I do medieval illuminations and calligraphy, and she was saying I should do one myself.

You may want to check with some of the local medieval groups, the SCA, Adrian Empire (we have a couple of people who do calligraphy), Acre, Avalon, etc, see if someone would be able to help you with this.

MY sister said that she got hers for $35 at a Judaica store called Hechts on Coney Island Ave in Brooklyn. I think Judaica stores may have less expensive ones (and less pretty though) than the ones found online.

Our Rabbi is providing us with one. I haven't seen it yet, but if you are trying to save money ask your Rabbi if he can supply one. They are usually generic but can do the job.

We spent a lot on a Ketubah we loved because we plan to display it in our home (if we ever get around to having it matted and framed ) ....

But i have seen Brides on here get very nice ones for $100 or less ...

If you're not interested in displaying it, you can get a legal one from your rabbi that's just typed words on white paper, and it's free. That's what my parents did 30 years ago.

Online they tend to run about $300, and can be much cheaper if you go to Judaica stores, but if you want one to display, I'd think you'd have to pay $100 for one nice enough. Unless you get a small one, maybe? But i haven't seen that yet.
