They are still booking. I call everyday and make believe I am interested in booking, and then I say that I'll call back to make an appointment.

Re: John Anthonys - Bankrupt?????
Hi ladies...just wanted to give everyone an update...my Mom went down to JA's and got our deposit back, too. We AGONIZIED over this decision and I feel in my heart we made the best choice, for us. (I can't wait to get the long distance phone bill THIS month!!!)
We actually re-booked with The Vanderbilt Mansion for the same day...I actually cried when I spoke with the Catering Manager, I'm just so glad it is done.
So, I must believe, everything happens for a reason...girls, hugs to you all in your desciion making process, and let me know what you decide/how you're feeling...

Re: John Anthonys - Bankrupt?????
I am calling tomorrow to get my deposit back as well. I am going to start a new post in as second... I have way too much stress in my life to have to worry what will happen between now and 02/29/2004.
I'm sorry. I was so positive in the beginning, and now I am afraid of reading the paper, wondering each day if they are still around...

Boo~Hoo! Stop your crying and begin to act like an adult! Anyway...I am booked at John Anthony's and I have no doubt in my mind that I am doing the right thing by keeping my wedding day. Our first instinct of the facility based upon their reputation, food, service and feeling like a guest when I walked into their catering hall still remains the same. I actually give JA's alot of credit for even putting up with all of the BS that is going on. I have heard how generous they have been...that alone shows their ability to remain an honorable catering hall. Sincerely yours, JA's 2005 Bride

Re: John Anthonys - Bankrupt?????
Each bride probally has their own valid reasons for making their choices on getting their deposits back. It really isn't fair to judge them unless you know totally the reasons and dilemas that had to face in order to come to this choice. I am glad you feel confident in your choice, but don't knock others for theirs.

Re: John Anthonys - Bankrupt?????
I totally agree. We looked everywhere and fell in love with JA. I spoke with them a number of times and an attorney. The restaurants are not filing for Chapter 11. They are not out of business nor in danger of going out of business. Yet, there is no guarantee for any business to stay in business. What will happen now is that the restaurants are going to be independent of this holding company. I also spoke with our DJ and they said that there is nothing to worry about. They do enough business there a week that if their not worried, we shouldn’t be either. Our DJ company also said that this is an issue that has being going on for quite sometime within the family and is just now coming to light. Worse case – JA, Coco’s and the rest do go under for some reason. Places like that are extremely hard to come by esp. their location and being on Long Island. They will get bought out and run just as professionally as they are now. The North Ritz for example was bought out and is just as great if not better then its predecessor. Unless anything else happens, I too am staying at JA for my December 2004 wedding. Everyone needs to do what they are comfortable with. Good Luck to all!! If you’re on the fence with your decision, talk to as many professionals as you can not just friends and family members, then make your decision! Good Luck again.

Re: John Anthonys - Bankrupt?????
OMG~I hope I read that right.
Well, Irishbride2005, I am sure you will have a wonderful wedding at JA's, I am sure it will still be be there. And if it's not, 2005? You will have plenty of time to find a new hall. However, I do not.
Thank you for your opinion, it really meant so much to me. Defending them as you are (on your first post)~if I didn't know any better, I would think you worked for them!

Re: John Anthonys - Bankrupt?????
Irishbride..was that really necessary? I think that JA will be there and will never shut down but each bride has the right to make that decision to switch. Hugs to all those going through this!
