Can someone please explain to me what differences I can expect to see with these different places? I know they are all on the water, but what things should I be looking out for when I see them?

The only one that I have been to is John Anthonys .....I didnt like the food ... the people had a day wedding so it was really pretty - the cocktail hour was upstairs I dont know if they have anyother way to get people up there - if you have older people that have a hard time walking just something to think about -
the view is great ......

I did hear that the food at caprain bills in really good....

that probably isnt much help sorry

good luck -

The riviera is the best choice in my opinion..

The people at captain bills were UNBELIEVABLY rude to me and FH when we went there...FM for details... and I dont like thatyou have to walk through the reception room to get to the cocktail hour

Lands end is really nice, but I didnt like the food either when I went there for a work prty

I have been to John Anthony's (inquiring for my wedding) and Riviera (inquiring and for a party).

They are very different atmospheres. John Anthon'ys has a more modern feel, where as Riviera has a more 'at home' cozy feel.

I know John Anthony's is under new ownership since I was there, so I am not sure what (if anything) has changed any. There are 2 reception rooms. I liked the main (bigger) one, b/c of the dance floor.

Riviera, my biggest challenge was if the weather is inclement and the CH has to be in side, it's okay, so long as there are no more than 100 guests. This is my PERSONAL opinon. I was recently there for a b-day party, it was a buffet, and the food was set up where the indoor CH would be. It was not bad, but the flow wasn't great. I was looking around at the seating (if it was a CH) and it did not appear to seat many. As for the dinner tables, this party had 9 tables (4 on one side and 5 on the other) with a family tabel set up in the middle. No tables on the dance floor. Could there have been more tables set up on the sides? Yes, but then they would not have view of the dancefloor.

FM if you want mroe info.

Yup, ai gree with the previus post on riviera. if all goes well and you have everything outside then it's beautiful, beautiful gazebo for ceremony, beautoful outdoor CH, but the indoor CH area is UGLY and TINY. If you have more than 100 guests, forget it, plus once you get over 120 guests, people are in corners, literally surrounded by 3 walls., and can't see the dance floor,a nd then there are tables blocking the already tiny dancefloor. it's a VERY nice lace if you're hvaing a small wedding in a month that's likely to be warm, dry and sunny!

I only looked at John Anthonys out of those three. My work always has parties at Captain Bills - so I didn't want to get married there.

John Anthonys has been bought over by the people who own Terrace on the Park (Queens) & the Battery Garden Restaurant (NYC). They haven't done any major renovations yet but they are planning on doing them in the winter. We loved the waterview & I've been to a wedding there before and the food was great!
We got a great deal & are using all the rooms in the hall some way or another.

Good luck & post your thoughts!

hey guys, just got back from a day of looking...
captain bills was absolutely gorgeous and a huge room, bridal suite is beautiful too and you make your entrance on a stairway. we loved it. only thing i didnt like was (and i agree with whoever said this) that you have to walk through the reception room to get to the cocktail hour. the girl we met with was extra sweet.

john anthonys had an incredible view. very elegant and surprisingly inexpensive. really big dance floor, we loved the downstairs room. i was in lvoe with the view.. you can see the bridge and fire island.

very tough decision.
