I'm getting married on July 11, 2008. I am also a teacher and work in Staten Island. I love being a teacher but it really was hard to pick a date because of this. I usually work summer school but will not be next summer.
So far I booked my venue, church and dj. I am looking into photographers now.

I hear ya! Im a city teacher as well!
I hated being restricted to certain dates! But at least we will be able to come back from our honeymoon and not have to worry about any 37 1/2 minutes!

i hate being restricted as well. June 14th was my first pick because that will be our 5 year anniversary. It didn't fit because I would still have another two weeks to work after that before our honeymoon. We also have a family wedding in May.
I also didn't want August because I am not sure where we are going on our honeymoon and I didn't want to risk it.
July is great, I just worry about the weather. In fact, I worry about everything!

I am your date twin! I am a social worker in a school around here (but I work over the summer), but my FH is a teacher and he is off. We booked the RH hall, and we are working on booking the photographer. I feel like I can get crazy with this though...there are so many to meet with. We liked the first one we saw, but I feel we should meet with others. Anyway....that is all we have done so far. I won't worry about the florist until we pick out the bm dresses, or the color...but i guess over the summer we will do that.

I am in the exact same situation.
RH only. Currenly meeting with photographers! I never realized how many little details there were in planning a wedding!
Somedays, I get major anxiety, but then I just take a couple days off of NO WEDDING TALK.
Other days, its a lot of fun and im just happy its over a year away
This website has definitely been a big help. Too bad its addicting. I should be grading math tests, when I find myself on here browsing favor ideas

I am a July bride...July 4th!! I am not a teacher. I said I didnt want a summer wedding because thats when all of my teacher-friends get married, but I fell in love with a 4th of July wedding so, we booked!!! All we have done is the RH and church. We are working on music and photography now! My side project is the wedding website now that the eparty has passed successfully!

ok end of june bride here i've done alot of reseach since i first got engaged- so i have alot of my major vendors done- i have: church, RH, photo/video, dj, florist, ordered my dress, headpiece & veil! i know i've gone overboard!!

Hi, I will be married July 11th and I am a 7th grade special ed. english teacher. I am also very anal and I have booked my rh=floral terrace, church=Our Lady of Loures, dj=tommy tunes, photog and video=A.D.A., Florist, flowers by maris, bought my dress, veil, and headpiece and am currently working on my e-party for june 16th. of this yrar. Whooo, I am tired just writing it all.

It's funny that all of us are either teachers or work in schools.
My cousin is a teacher and got married this past weekend. She has to wait until our February break to take her honeymoon.
I didn't want to have to wait. I also wanted to pick a date in which I have I was off from school for a few days before the wedding. July 18th was our original pick, but FH's friend picked that date right before us.

Same situation! I didn't want to have to wait for a break to take our honeymoon. Also, didnt want to have to come straight back from our honeymoon to jump back into my 3 hr. daily commute.
It will be nice to have August off to relax and reflect on everything.

I know what you mean. I will need August also. I have worked every summer that I have been a teacher, it will be nice to finally have off.
On top of that, I will be moving out to Long Island and I am currently looking for a new job out there.

Good luck. L.I. is the hardest place to find a job especially for common branches. It's all about who know you. I plan on teaching a college course on the myths of elementary on LI 101. One day
But dont mind my skepitism, After the first couple years, i pretty much stopped sending the resume out. If you have a certification in Science, math or special ed, you have a better chance. or speak spanish.
My girlfriend works on the north shore, in one day they received 1,600 job applications for one elementary ed position. (when I first started to get disuaded)
A little bit of advice, Join OLAS application system, it's a good first start, try not to get disuaded (even by people like me) and network as much as possible! Good Luck!!!
