Just a Thought....
I have been thinking about this wedding and all this planning... and this really is the most exciting and fun time I have had in my life so far.As a little girl, I used to dream about my wedding day and it's almost unbelievable that it is becoming a reality... and a fast approaching one, at that! Every decision for me has been a little stressful because, like any other bride, I want to make sure I am making the right decisions for everything to come together just the way I have always imagined it.
As much as the planning and the big party is exciting, I am constantly being reminded WHY this entire process is SO amazing~!!
The best part about getting married is just that... getting married!! I am going to walk away from all of this hard work with a HUSBAND and the blueprint for the rest of my life. Last week somebody asked me 'Why get married? You live together... you have already intergrated your families and finances... aren't you exactly where you WANT to be? Why does a piece of paper make a difference?' I didn't have an answer! I just got silent... and I have been thinking about my answer ever since. I realized that the reason why marriage is so important to me is because I want the world to know that THIS is the man I choose to spend my life with. I want my future children to know that their mom and dad have made a commitment to each other in front of all the people they love the most to do everything they can to work as a team through this lifetime and stay together. I want us to share a last name. A lot of people look at marriage as 'just a piece of paper' but it really is SO much more than that and I wish I had this answer ready when I was asked this question the first time!!
Not only am I SO excited to begin my new family, but this time of my life has been a tremendous reminder of how blessed I am to have my nearest and dearest. My relationship with my parents, friends and entire family is growing in so many different ways; all of them together. I am touched by how much the people around me have done to show me how much they care. I have never had so much positivity in my life and have felt so loved by so many people at the same time. It's such an incredible experience to live through... I hope everyone else is feeling this way, too.
I admit that I easily get wrapped up in the 'superficial' part of getting married (the dress, the cake, the limo, the venue, etc) but when I think about my friends and family coming together to show love and support to me and my FH it's a great reminder that, without them, the party would be meaningless.
Sorry for the long post & getting all sentimental. This whole process is so emotional lol and I know this is a great place to express exactly how I'm feeling

AH! I love this! Its so true! As brides we get so caught up in the details ESPECIALLY when other people around you are asking about them! When I feel like I get to be 'too much'... I slow myself down by imagining FH and I at the altar saying our vows. We're writing our own and he's told me many times already that he is writing them as we go along.. so I think about them. I cannot put into words what I feel for this man without wanting to cry. His love is such an overwhelming love and I cannot believe I am so lucky to have him.
I used to feel the same way... about 'why does the piece of paper matter'... but the paper NOR the wedding makes the MARRIAGE.
Thats the end goal. The paper and the wedding are just steps to the end goal of a happy marriage.
I want to stand in front of all my friends and family and let them see just how much FH and I love each other and just how amazing our love is.
THAT is what I want. I want my children to look at our wedding photos and just see that their mommy and daddy continued to grow with each other and love each other even more.

This is beautifully said!I totally agree with you! Awhile ago, someone once told me that people want a wedding and not a marriage and they end up rushing into things to plan a party. By the way we all gush about our FH's, I know none of us did that, but I think it's definitely true in some cases. It's so important to keep sight of what really matters. I get so excited for the wedding and sharing all those moments with family & friends, but I also get excited looking past the wedding and starting a new life with FH. There are so many exciting times ahead of us!
Edited because I hit submit too fast! haha

Wonderfully said! I also think it's strange that somebody would even ask, 'Why get married?' Why NOT? I'm not afraid to make a lifelong commitment to be there with and for my teammate, no matter what happens. AND I want to share his last name. Other people are welcome to live their lives how they want, but don't question why I would want to live my life differently!

I love this! I think marriage is so important and it's more than just a legal document, it's a promise and a vow! One of my 'musts' for our wedding day, is making sure myself and FH have time to ourselves so we can reflect on the day and hold eachother and just soak it all in. It's such a huge step in our lives.Welcome New Vendors
