I think it's just sucks that the one day you asked for it not to be is when they do it. I would tell Dave to ask your sis if there is another day to do it instead

Don't mean to crash, but
same thing happened to me.
The day they picked for the shower was a day that DH's family was all invited to a wedding - we were invited as well, but were not going. So that took like 10 ladies off the list. It was also a week before school started and so many friends said they were finishing up summer plans with kids and would not be there.
The guest list for the wedding was only 100 people, so I knew it would not be big to begin with, I had a total of 6 guests at my shower.
At first I was upset. But then you know what, I made the best of it. We had a great time and the day was really special.
My MOH did not want to change the date when she found out about the mix up.
It happens. Make the best of it.

I'd be upset with my friends too. I've been trying to think of a way around it for you and I can't come up with anything based on whatyou told me about your free weekends. Booooooo
