We booked a very well known Billy Joel cover guy for the wedding through our DJ. I've been a fan forever and it was something that was very special to me bc he was going to sing the song for me and my dad live....wellllllllllll i got a call 2 days ago that a gig he is involved with had to swap dates and guess who can't show up to my wedding?? yep. begin heart attack now. He didn't leave me high and dry though, he is sending a friend of his (who i spoke with who is awesome) to cover, but still. It just makes for a messy situation and now my confidence that this will work out is blown. It just pisssesss me off bc he signed a contract and it was broken. Yeah, he is probably making a lot more with this other gig, but still. Anyway, if you booked anyone big, just beware that that is the nature of the business. They don't make the same $$ with weddings, so if they get a better offer, you all of a sudden are not top priority.
The guy who is coming now is excellent, i've never heard of him, but he really is great. I lucked out in that aspect, but my nerves are shot now.

FH loves big shot....we were going to book them to play at our VH but the price quote we got was ridiculous PLUS I got a list of demands

i already heard the new guy, and he's great. ((thank god!!)) nope, it wasn't big shot so don't worry. That was the whole reason why i didn't book with big shot....they've been in demand a lot since the whole Movin' Out thing, so I was affraid that if someone gave them a nicer check, we'd be up a river. The original guy was from Movin' Out and he performs all over long island. I don't want to say his name because i'm not bashing him, I guess it's just the nature of the business. Personally, when it comes to stuff like this, I think it's more important to keep your word. Who cares how great you are if there's a big chance you won't show up for an event? Eh....that's just my opinion. I spoke with the new performer and he's really great and seems really into the whole thing. I'm excited, I just hope that he doesn't get a bigger offer too...now i'm a nervous wreck. It has nothing to do with the new performer, but once i'm burned, i tend to not forget it, so of course i'm freaking out that this guy will get another gig and ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I got the same from a Pianist that we were looking in to for our Ceremony. In addition to the fee that was more than double every other quote we recieved she wanted transportaion from NYC to Glen Cove. A 30 min train ride and a 5 min. cab ride. We would have to provide car service for her. We went with someone else

That's still crappy though At least there was someone to cover for him though. A girl i know who got married in April hired this band that she was dying to have for 8 years because of the lead singer and well he got really sick right before the wedding and couldnt perform. She was heartbroken! Luckily the replacement singer was FABULOUS!! He looked like Bono too lol
