Yep, that is how I found out, I was at my dad's house when he called and he never calls my dads, so I had an idea

DH asked my dad. And my dad didn't know how to react. He said to DH 'what would you do if I said no?' and DH said 'I'd ask anyway' and my dad said 'So, you have your answer'

My dad proposed to my mom in a car when they had been dating a month, so they aren't very 'traditional' when it comes to wedding stuff.

He called my parents from Aruba and asked them the night before. They had no idea and were crying! He asked me the next day while at sunset on the beach.

No, but I'll give you a little story. My FH asked me for my b'day in front of my parents and best friend. Ofcourse my Mom said you didn't ask me.

I was so nervous, so I turned to my dad and asked if it was ok. He said well he already has the ring. Ofcourse he can. He was only joking.

What a relief!!!!

Yes he asked my father, and told my father to keep it a secret from my mother cause he knew if she knew i'd know

Yes, he asked both of them a few days before we went away.
I think he knew my parents would give him their blessing, we've been dating for 10 years

Yes, he asked both of my parents together, it was a snow storm and he had borrowed my car (I have a 4 wheel drive) he said he was going to work, but instead drove to LI (we live in CT) and asked my parents, then went to the city to pick up the ring! I was calling thinking he was working late in such a storm, and he wasnt...he was asking my parents for my hand! I love hearing the story!

My father had just passed away.....and he asked my older brother for me hand! It was sweet....and My father would have wanted it that way!

Yes, but not my mom because she has a BIG mouth and would not have been able to keep that secret I know it may sound old fashioned, but I think its only proper and romantic for a man to inform/ask the womans parents.

Not TECHNICALLY.

FH met my dad for the first time about 5 months before he died. My dad said 'I like this one. He's alright'. When my dad went in the hospital a month or so later, he introduced Rob as 'This is the guy who is gonna marry my daughter.' Rob turned 18 shades of red, but when my dad looked at him and said 'Isn't that right?' he said 'Absolutely'.

My mom nad FH became very close after my son was born - she practically lived at my apartment. And she would call him son in law all the time and he called her mom. When she was in the hospital before she died he said 'You know - I was gonna ask Jeannie to marry me... so why don't you stick around to see it?' She said 'You have my permission to make her honest. And I'll be at THAT wedding no matter what happens'. It was sweet. That was one year ago from the 23rd. She died one year ago yesterday.
