He certainly did...my father and my sister were home when he went to ask (my mom was out-- she was so upset she missed it!) My sister practically had to tape her mouth shut to keep it a secret.

I asked for their blessing, but not their permission. I'm a feminist like that. I asked a few days before I asked my FW. They live in Dallas, which apparently is really good for me, because while i asked them not to tell the family, they pretty much told everyone in Dallas except FW's grandmother, and they didn't tell her brother who lives up here right now and is going to law school. FBIL has been really cool, but I think it shocked him that at 23, he could be someone's BIL.

He took my father out to dinner and asked him. He said he was more nervous asking my father's permission then he was to ask me.

He also took my mom with him to pick up the ring. I still can't believe she never told me.

FH was going to a few days before he asked me but I wasn't supposed to be home that day and I was so he couldn't go over there to ask in person. My dad let me hear it when I came downstairs the morning after he proposed to me!!
