just curious: mortgage rates

What did you lock in at? For a conventional 30 year mortgage? We locked in two weeks ago at 5.8 . I was just wondering if this is a good deal.

I haven't been looking regularly but at the beginning of this week I saw it at 6.25% so it looks like a great deal!

Not a bad deal if you locked in with 0 points. Rates are in the upper 5 percent currently.

Can you get your rate re-negotiated - we locked in at 6.125 - and Chase re-negotiated it to 5.875 on their own accord

we tried to ask about it... part way through the mortgage processing, and they said no- thats whats in the contract.... that we can 'pay' points to keep the current rate lock which expired....which is a HIGHER rate then their current rate fh and i dont know what to do.....

If you do get points, I heard that you get the money back when you do your taxes.

No you don't. If thats the case... people would just pay a ton of points to drop their interest rates down to nothing.

You may be able to 'deduct' your points on your taxes... but thats a far cry to actually getting it all back.
