Just curious... Why does it seem that many of you think...

Just curious... Why does it seem that many of you think...

that the wedding video is not as important as photographs? I would think it would be even more important. When I look at my video in 10 years, I'll be able to see all the action *live* - relatives who may no longer be around will be dancing - or I'll get to hear their voices again.

Don't get me wrong, I think photographs are important, but they only capture a split second. They can't capture all of the life of your wedding like a video can.

Am I alone in thinking this? It just seems like so many people are willing to pay tons for their photographs and then want to make up for that (budgetwise) by either not having video, or getting someone really cheap.

Curious...

I'm with you 100%!! Video is very important to me as well. I know we will watch it every year on our anniversary.

I value the video less b/c I probably will only watch it a few times. I don't believe I will have as much use of it as the photographs (I still look at my own baby pictures every few months, and certainly not reliving by baby experience). But I think the good photographs can capture the day and the emotion to some degree even better than the video. Also, think about how many times have you watched your favorite movies? That's probably the most of how often you'll watch a video.

I am one that doesn't think the video is as important, because for me, I'm not the type to sit and watch the video more than once or twice. I'm very much a picture person though. I look through my pictures all the time over and over. When other people get married, I tend to ask to see their pictures but almost never the video. That's just my preference.

I think the video is important - I guess b/c pictures are more traditional some see them as more useful? I'll probably spend more time finding a photographer, because ultimately I'll look at the photos more than the video, but I still want the video and will dedicate some time and $$ towards it.

I do think a video is very important - that's the one area I spent a lot on. I think personally I will watch it often - it was really the best day of my life! But I wanted it more for the reasons you said- to remember forever the people in our lives now and see them walking, talking, dancing, etc.

AND for our children - my SIL is a first grade teacher and she has always said that her kids know their parent's wedding video inside and out! I can see from DH's kids (my step children) - they are in their teens and just last weekend they pulled out the video from Christmas!

SO - no I DO think video is very important and I can't wait to get mine!

I love watching wedding videos! They show it all. They are both important in different ways. I would recomend getting a DVD though, you don't want to deal a video tape in the future.

i think video is important, but i'm not willing to pay a lot for special effects and montages. Just show me the action, i don't need it all fancy. You can't hear peoples voices when they do some of the special editing anyway... they have music playing. I just think the bells and whistles are unnecessary.

at first I didn't want a video (flashbacks of big clunky cameras and bright spotlights)

but then a friend of mine said the exact same thing that you did...and that is why I got mine...my parents had me a little older...and we are not planning to have children right away...so I want my kids to see them when they are vibrant..

to make the point really shine through...my grandfather died 2 weeks before my wedding...we didn't have any grandparents (either side) at our wedding...so cherish what you have...I would give anything to see them on video

I put equal thought and effort into both photo & video, for those same reasons. Alot of my family & his are getting on in years & I think it would be nice to 'experience' them in that way

Interesting. At first, DH & I were willing to cut the video out of our budget entirely. Then we went out to see Imagine & watched their samples. We both changed our minds immediately.

I could certainly see how, while this tape will not be one of most watched videos in our library, it will be one of the most treasured. I think especially when the kids come along, that to be able to go back & see their parents on such a special day ... how much fun it was, who was there, what the ceremony was like ... is priceless.

Photos definitely have their place & I wouldn't trade them, but the video (DVD) will tell a much different, maybe more complete, side to the story!

I think photographs and the video are of equal importance because after everything is said and done that is all you will have. A video is a nice way to capture memories.

I think it stems from a lot of people don't like to see or hear themselves on video. Plus I dont think any of us wanted to have those big spotlights that video companies used to use.

It was Yabbobay that convinced me that it's important to have I am very glad we do. I don't know how often we'll watch it, but it's there for when we want to.

i prefer photos over video. i like having pictures hanging up around my house, and i like looking through albums all the time. i doubt i will watch my wedding video very often.

we almost cut out video entirely, until we went to wild rose & saw their amazing work.

I think the photos are more important...I think they capture a moment and bring you back to that moment - without some drunk cousin making a fool of himself in the background. Or some videographer hogging up the dance floor to get 'the' moment.

I treasure photos more than videos...I think photos are timeless - my grandparents & parents didn't have video...just photos.

I'd rather have a friend/cousin video tape the ceremony and do some free-style during the reception than hire someone to put together some cheesey video for me that I'll only watch once.

Then again...I have 471 days to go, so I might (somehow) change my mind.

I didn't have a video. I really don't regret it at all. My ceremony and reception was at night and everything was candle lit. The lights (they would have HAD to have them it was so dark) would have ruined the ambiance I was trying so hard to create... so we didn't go with one. But I do not regret it.

I hate the idea of me on camera! So does FH. We are not having video. My family has a lot of home video, and yes-even of people that passed away. I NEVER watch them, but I do flip through my photo albums once in a while. That's just us though-everyone is diff.

Video is very important.....I want to watch & remember our special day for the rest of my life. I also want to be able to show it to my kids one day.
