As many of you know, this year has been hell for FH & I. I have even had to cancel my dream venue because of health/money issues. My Mom has been useless to us and has shown no interest in planning but yet wants to 'shine' on the Day Of our wedding.When asked by my MOH to help with my bridal shower my Mom said she couldn't 'afford' it. I haven't received any help from either of our parents so we've been struggling. Mom claims she's broke and can't help. Fine, I didn't count on them helping so it wasn't a 'biggie'. But I HATE being lied to! I just found out that my 'broke' Mother is going on a 7 Day Cruise with her Girlfriends the first week of June and she didn't tell me..I found out 'by accident'. She hasn't mentioned going on a cruise at all!! I have been hurt time & time again by her through this planning process. She knows what we have been going through but yet she continues to be so very selfish. Am I being unreasonable?????????

Not selfish at all!!!! My mom and I have a very open relationship and if that was my mom I would say to her 'You have money for a cruise with your girlfriends, but no money to help your daughter plan her wedding?'

it's not unreasonable to want your parents to be involved (and help out financially if they can) ... it's very frustrating that your mom is being selfish

You aren't being unreasonable, but our parents are who they are. I have my share of drama with my parents and my future in laws. Just can't let it give me any wrinkles before the wedding. It is amazing how selfish someone can be, but raise such a self-less child.

I'm so sorry ur going through this. I don't think ur being unreasonable at all. If it were me, I would treat her like any other guest at my wedding, and not even ask for her input in anything. Its hard cuz that's ur mother, but it sounds like maybe she doesn't deserve the honor of being the typical 'mob'

I am so sorry, I know exactly how you feel!!!! Similar.. yet a more drastic event in my life occurred.. Unfortunately my parents and us are no longer on speaking terms.
My advice to you, as you are on speaking terms is ask her about it.. It ***** being lied to, especially when it's someone close to you and when it's something like that, but it also ***** more when you assume something and get yourself worked up. Maybe she used gift points or her friends are splitting the cost so it isn't expensive? I know these are 'high hopes' but hey, you never know... maybe you'll feel better afterwards or if not, you'll feel the same you do now...

You have every right to be mad! That's not fair! At least be up front and honest in the beginning about the $$ situation. I agree with Soontobemrscampos-treat her like a guest at the wedding.

Nope, this just happened to FH and I as well, only his mom seemed to think there was nothing wrong telling him she couldn't afford to help....and the next day telling him shes going on vacation and buying an ipad!!! <

Thank you Ladies for all your kind words. I spoke to my Mom last night and she's 'shocked' that I knew about it. She had a typical caught look on her face and then proceeded to change the subject. I am just so done!

I would remember that 'shocked look and change the subject' technique for future reference. Like when you tell her she's not getting introduced with the BP at the wedding (not saying you are doing that, just an example or something. you get the point.)
