Congrats on your Engagement!!!

The first thing I would do (after telling every single person I knew I was engaged!!!) would be to set up a realistic budget. You can do a search on this site and there have been many posts on how much hall, photographers, video, and flowers are.

ALSO...Check out The Knot (www.theknot.com). They have a great checklist of what you are supposed to do and when. I use it a lot!

Congrats!! I completely agree with the ladies that you must first chose a reception hall, but before you can do that, you must at least have an idea of how many people you will have (make a tentative, but faily close estimate), and then you can begin looking at reception sites. This way you will know which size rooms you will need, and whether you can afford each place (which, of course, will depend on what you want to spend, which is another thing you must agree on before you start looking). Setting a budget is pretty hard before you actually start looking, because things cost more than you think, and you will constantly have to readjust your 'budget' in your heads. But, you should have a general idea.... Take your time, and GOOD LUCK!!!!

THank you everyone. I love this site, after seeing how much work that goes into planning I will never take another one that I go to for granted!
I wanted to ask you nice ladies another question,
Do you feel like when the both of your parents get together they start making the plans like it's their wedding? We had a big Easter dinner with both of our families and they were going on and on about 'you have to do this and that'. I don't know what to do, ooh yeah and there are tons of abbreveations on this site and I'm still new with the lyngo if anyone could inform me.

Congrats on the big I too are having a long engagement. I got engaged Dec 23,2002 and will have my wedding Dec 3, 2004. At first, we just took it all in...enjoyed being enaged for the first few months. Then I started to plan our E-party. We had it in March (3 months after). At that same time, we started shopping around to reception sites. We must have looked at over 10 different ones, till we both agreed on one 'The Riviera'. The same week that we booked the Riviera, we booked the church, just so that the date and times were set in stone. Since then we haven't done much. Gone to a few Bridal Shows. Getting some good ideas of what DJ's are good, which photographers do good work, ect... I think next month our next step will be to book our Photographer and Video person. Having a long engagement lets you spread things out and take time. Best of luck to you and this board is extremely helpful. There are so many great ideas you can get off of here.
