Hello, I got engaged on friday night and I know alot of people who have recommended this site as the place to come to get help....
My fiancee and I would like to plan a small and intimate wedding in the summer (august) of 2008. We would really prefer not to have it at some of the larger reception halls and try to find a nice restaraunt location (preferably Nassau County) that may offer wedding reception services.
Also, ironically my fiancee is a professional photographer, so it is odd to be on the opposite side of the coin asking for photographer advice. We would like to find a professional photographer to take our photos, provide us with digital negatives and maybe a simple photo album. We are not in the need of the super deluxe premium package photographer services.
Overall we are looking to keep our wedding on the smaller side and want to find a good blend of class and affordability as we are also in the process of looking to buy a house and would rather put our money towards that than spend it all on a big party.
I guess this is a good start for now as I know 2 of our more important things are securing a location and a photographer early enough, so if anyone could offer any assistance we would greatly appreciate it.

How many people were you looking to have at the reception? Did you want to get married at a Church or at the hall?

How many people do you think you'll invite? Are you thinking of having a specific theme- e.g. waterfront, outdoor dining, etc.?

thanks for the warm response...
We definitely want a one stop location for ceremony and reception... no church needed.
As far as guests, we havent actually put pen to paper to determine a guest list, but probably 100-150 (max) guests total...
as far as a theme.,.... havent really thought much about that...

congratulations! my advice to you is to enjoy your engagement fo a little while and then start resarching halls! don't go too fast, you will only have this just engaged time in your life once!

How much time prior to the actual wedding date do people typically start actually planning the whole thing?

it depends what time of the year- if u want a summer wedding alot of dates are booked- i booked with chateau la mer & i orginally wanted june 28th but it was booked- everything was booked for june except for the 7th & 21st so we picked the 21st- its really crazy

i totally agree about searching as soon as you can 'cus if you're planning peak season (may to october) on a Saturday night, alot of places do book fast! even if it's 2008. If you have a specify day in mind, it's even better to look sooner than later!
I started early this year and had to be real flexible with the date and time to get the location I wanted.
Let us know what type of hall you're looking for and what's your budget and we'll try to help guide you to the right halls/restaurants. :)

I think its great to find a place now- you can lock in 2006 rates for your 2008 wedding to save $$$
Also, if you start looking nowish, you will see what the venue/location looks like in the summer when you will have your wedding and take your pictures.
