Hello, I got engaged on friday night and I know alot of people who have recommended this site as the place to come to get help....
My fiancee and I would like to plan a small and intimate wedding in the summer (august) of 2008. We would really prefer not to have it at some of the larger reception halls and try to find a nice restaraunt location (preferably Nassau County) that may offer wedding reception services.
Also, ironically my fiancee is a professional photographer, so it is odd to be on the opposite side of the coin asking for photographer advice. We would like to find a professional photographer to take our photos, provide us with digital negatives and maybe a simple photo album. We are not in the need of the super deluxe premium package photographer services.
Overall we are looking to keep our wedding on the smaller side and want to find a good blend of class and affordability as we are also in the process of looking to buy a house and would rather put our money towards that than spend it all on a big party.
I guess this is a good start for now as I know 2 of our more important things are securing a location and a photographer early enough, so if anyone could offer any assistance we would greatly appreciate it.

As far as what our target budget is... we havent even discussed that....
I know we want to have it as small and as affordable as possible.... not your traditional big hall, DJ with giant tvs, and super expensive flowers type of wedding.
We really have no idea how much we could expect a wedding to cost, so any ideas would be a great help...
Brian's friend had a wedding at Garden City Hotel which was so extravagant it cost $100,000... that is not anywhere near the type of wedding we want to have....
I guess since we have no idea what price ranges are for a wedding it is hard to budget at first.
What would some of you suggest as a minimum planned budget for a wedding that will be more on the simple side, but without having something feel like it is the back party room of TGI Fridays?

So we called GW Manor in Roslyn, they have the date available that we want and we are going to take a look at it on Saturday.
They said their weddings start at $90 per person and they include the cake.
Is this about average? above average or below average?
We have no scale for judging what things cost at this point, so we have no comparison.

Welcome!!! Congratulations. What a great engagement story. Sounds like a sweetheart!!! Definitely enjoy being engaged for a little while. It only happens once.

Congratulations! What a cute Engagement story! I don't know many restaurants in Nassau - but I do know that most higher end restaurants will offer their services for a wedding. The only restaurant I LOVE in Nassau is Watersooi... great for catering but not the most 'elegant' place for a wedding... maybe an engagement party?

Brian does limited weddings a year as a photography, spending more time on more personal and intimate moments / portraits.... so we could definitely use some suggestions on some good / affordable photographers.
We have 2 situations we've been contemplating.
# 1. find a affordbable photographer to capture the day and provide us with high res digitals and Brian would do all the photo editing, layout and album creation.
# 2. find a affordable photographer to capture the day and include 1 simple album, and provide us with the original digitals for us to do what we want with.
So if anyone has worked with a photographer who would meet those needs i would appreciate it... we realize we would pay more for a better photographer, but other than a simple album, we arent all that interested in the additional stuff like family books and such.

OK first of all CONGRATS! I just read the story on his site and got chills! Thats sooooooooooooo great! And he does excellent work [I am a graphic artist as well] So I completely understand how finding a photographer is going to be very difficult! Well you have A LOT of time left still so peek around the site and you'll start to see some places that will work. I know Rocco's catering hall in east rockaway is a small place. Bedell's in freeport?
