just made an appt at kleinfeld's...THANKS for all the feeback!!!!!

can you believe that they charge you $50 if you don't cancel an appointment 48 HOURS in advance???? i found that to be a little ridiculous. and the woman on the phone had an attitude - it wasn't anything she said really, just her tone.

did anyone get their gowns in nyc at a place other than kleinfeld's?

can anyone share their experience with kleinfeld's?

thanks!!

I bought my gown at Klienfeld - they are the best!!!

They took time with me and were very nice and patient - the seamstress working on my dress has made all sorts of arragements to get me in based on MY schedule, not hers.

The only thing is they are not cheap - their gowns start at $1500...but I would recommend them again and again.

I live in Brooklyn, and everyone keeps telling me I HAVE to go there, and I refuse, I had a snotty experience with the woman on the phone as well, and they act like they are THE ONLY bridal shop in existance. Ugh.

I don't want to get attacked: I know people who have had wonderful experiences there, but overall, I keep hearing the attitude sucks.

There is an amazing site for all NYC research I used to find shops in NYC.
The Bridal Shopping Guide on www.nymetro.com

go to

Have fun!

i grew up in brookyln, actually just a few blocks from kleinfeld, so i am getting pressured by my mom to check it out too. i think i will go there, but not limit myself.

where else did you look, or where do you plan on looking, if you don't mind my asking?

I loved the experience I had there. The women were very knowledgabe and very helpful.

You have to remember when you call you are speaking to a receptionist, not a sales person and not a seamstress. They are girls at a desk and they are snotty and think they work for the Queen of England, you know ... But they aren't the ones assisting you on your dress at all - that's my take on it at least!

Hi Alex,

I just edited my above post to add a link to an awesome bridal shop resource.

Go Brooklyn!

Hi...I agree about the $50 charge with Kleinfelds....couldn't believe it myself. I've gone to Kleinfelds b4 with other friends that have gotten married and had a wonderful experience....however I can't say the same for when I went shopping for my dress. I think it all narrows down to who is helping you. The girl who helped me, was not knowlegable at all, was not professional, and talked to me as if we were hanging out in the ghettoo!!

Needless to say I was furious and left.

ETS: I ended up buying my gown from Bridal Reflections in Carle Place, however Jan05Bride has the same dress, and she got hers at Kleinfelds.

I got my gown from Kleinfeld. The receptionist has consistently been snotty to me and my mother, but my consultant and seamstress have been out of this world! It's been a wonderful experience.

I made my first dress appointment at Kleinfelds because they have a great selection of dresses. I intended to find the dress I loved there and go somewhere else to buy it because I heard they were snotty and rude.

Needless to say I LOVED my experience at Kleinfeld's. I tried on 6 dresses and bought the first one. My attendant was wonderful and so helpful. I got to meet the designer of my dress (it was a trunk show), and they are making some changes just for me! I also got a discount, since it was a show.

You really should give them a chance, and enjoy yourself!

I got a nasty attitude on the phone as well so I cancelled my appt. (before 48 hrs too!)

I had mixed feelings about Kleinfelds at first, but they're changing my mind for the better. I was also a little turned off by the cancellation policy, but in a sense I can understand it. They're very busy and don't want to waste time that could potentially be spent on another bride. Ok, so I go to the store with my mom and the salewoman starts asking what kind of style I want and what price range. My mom says 'well, I don't think I want to spend more than $1500. $2000 tops if she's really in love with the dress.' The woman looks at us and goes, 'well then you want to look at our lower end dresses.' I stopped dead in my tracks and told her that I was unaware the $1500 still wasn't a lot of money to spend on a dress I plan on wearing once. As soon as I said that she was very apologetic and was awesome from that point forward. She showed me a bunch of dresses in my price range and didn't make me feel rushed.
I found a dress there that I loved and looked all around to find it elsewhere, because Brooklyn is quite a treck from White Plains. I couldn't find it anywhere and wound up going back to Kleinfelds. When I walked into the dressing room she had my dress right there. She knew exactly which dress I was coming back for and I bought it that day. My dress came in earlier than they told me and my first fitting is in 2 weeks.

I didn't end up getting my dress there, but I've been there twice. Both times I had a very nice experience. My sales person was Barbara and she was an absolute sweetheart.
I suggest you give it a try - what have you to lose?
good luck!!!

I was turned off by that policy as well but made the appt anyway. Then, I heard that they were predicting a major snow storm for that day and me and my mom were going via public transportation ( probably at least an hour and half ride) so I called them and asked if I could play it by ear and they said no - so I cancelled it and never looke dback.

Although I know many people who bought from them and had wonderful expereinces...some say get past their snobby attitude and you have a great place to get a gown with wonderful service.

I know many people who used RK Bridal (I used them for BM) and they all had good experiences with them - but it will be very different from Kleinfelds.

I refused to go there b/c I did not like their policy of paying to get an appointment and you have to cancel within a certain amount of time. Plus their gown are a bit pricey. It is not that serious. I refuse to spend 5k on a dress. I can use that money towards the reception.

Just to play devils advocate - you have to cancel a hotel reservation within a certain amount of time too - becuase at that point - they cant get someone else to fill the room

Kleinfelds is VERY busy and are in high demand - if you make an appt and then don't show - they lose money and potentially other customers that way. THey don't do it to make money off you - they do it to make sure people keep appointments...Im not sure why that is looked down upon, if you keep your appt. then you have nothing to worry about.

it wasn't the policy per se that i looked down upon, it was really the 48 hours thing. i've never been to a hotel or anyplace that required that much advance notice - usually it's 24 hours.
