just made an appt at kleinfeld's...THANKS for all the feeback!!!!!
Original post by alexlynn7
can you believe that they charge you $50 if you don't cancel an appointment 48 HOURS in advance???? i found that to be a little ridiculous. and the woman on the phone had an attitude - it wasn't anything she said really, just her tone.
did anyone get their gowns in nyc at a place other than kleinfeld's?
can anyone share their experience with kleinfeld's?
thanks!!

Re: just made an appt at kleinfeld's and don't like them already
I did not have a good Kleinfeld's experience, either. First of all, I did not care for the $50 penalty for cancelling within 48 hours. I can justify a cancellation charge for a hotel or doctor's appointment; if you don't show up, they lost a sale. However, if you don't show up for a sales appointment, they've only lost a POTENTIAL sale. That's the cost of doing business. Not every appointment yields a sale. But that is their policy and they are open about it.
I also didn't care much for the receptionist or the saleswoman assigned to me. The saleswoman wasn't very helpful. I guess that's the luck of the draw and may be the reason why some have a good experience and some have a not so good experience.
Although I did not find anything I was crazy about, they do have a large selection of dresses. A lot of the dresses were nice -- just not what I was looking for.
I think it's worth going anyway. You never where you will find your dress. I finally found my dress at a small salon called The Bridal Atelier in Manhattan.

if you make an appt. that you keep - then forget about the $50 - it doesn't apply to you.
if you can't make it for an emergency - then tell them and reschedule and I am sure they would be understanding.
THey have obviously had problems with people keeping appt's - so this is their solution - I dont see why it is such a big deal - if you want to go there - then show up for your appt. Believe me they live by their own rules, when YOU have an appt...they show up and don't keep you waiting.

I've experienced the cancellation policy at many places lately, so I'm not that surprised to hear that Kleinfeld's has one.
I went to a sample sale/trunk show at Kleinfeld's. It was great for the variety of dresses that they have and they didn't rush me. I must have tried on 12 dresses. The attendants were very attentive and ready with compliments. I did not find my dress there, but I recommend to everyone to go there if they can just to see all of the dresses they have and to get ideas.

I think a lot of people are wary of giving out their credit card numbers these days, I dont think I would be comfortable knowing that someone has my CC no.

I agree with the person who said these are GIRLS at the front desk who think they are hot shizzle.
I'll tell you what my gutsy MIL did, she called to make the appt and when the girl told her the policy and asked for her credit card...she gave it right back to her and said ....'I DO NOT INTEND to miss my appt so I don't see why you need my credit card number, I'm sorry, but no.' She told them it was insulting basically and she'll see them there...end of story.
once in, it's a great place to try on everything you want and never knew you'd like...regardless of the price. The staff is helpful.
Also the girl threw in..when making an appt...didnt ask any questions...'our gowns START at $1800 just so you know.'
Um yeah thanks, I didn't ask. These girls have no lives and are all into the hype because they are out in the a$$-end of bklyn and this is all they have. (and I know, I grew up alongside them and it truly feels like the outer limits of BKLYN sometimes).

I called up and was turned off by the snooty receptionist. I knew their dresses were very expensive so I chose to look elsewhere. Then a few people recommended RK Bridal. I went there, had great experiences. I bought my dress there, so did my mom and my bm's.
ps.I live in Brooklyn too and thought it would be the most convenient place to start.

I bought my gown at Bridal Atelier by Mark Ingram in Manhattan. The service and experience has been nothing less than phenomenal! During my fittings, they lay out a crisp, clean, white sheet for me to stand on, so my dress does not touch the floor!! I've acually met Mark Ingram himself a few times and he is incredibly sweet. I highly recommend!!

KLEINFELDS......... WAY OVER PRICED>>> I went and actually, the lady was nice, but I really can't see wearing something for only 16 hours and paying over $3000. Some of the dresses they had me trying on were 7,000 and up!!! The head piece I liked was Over $1100!!!!! I think if you want to spend a ton of money on your dress, great be my guest, but otherwise there are so many other bridal places that you can do better in.
I ended up getting my dress at RK BRIDAL in the CITY. They are WONDERFUL. I went on a Thursday Afternoon, I basically had the Bridal Gown try-on area ll to myself and the rooms are 2 times the size of the ones at Klienfelds!!!
I am going to get my girls' dresses at RK TOO!! CHECK THEM OUT AND STAY AWAY FROM SAT!!! IT IS A NIGHTMARE>.

I think it all depends on what you're looking for, and what you're willing to spend ........Kleinfelds is a high end bridal salon, they carry almost ANY desidner you can think of, and if you're price range is less than $1500, then their selection is probably NOT what you're looking for. - You're not going to go to Barney's for a suit if you only want to spend $100 - you know ?? Same kind of thing. Keep in mind the girls who answer the phones are receptionists, they are NOT professional sales people - If nothing else, GO there, try on everything and get an idea of what you love. If you tell them you absolutely cannot spend more than $2,000 - they're not going to pull out the Vera Wang you know ??
But, if you're not looking to spend a fortune, there are MANY places you can go to for a gorgeous gown .......I got my gonw @ Bridal reflections in Carle Place. - they range in price from $500 and up and up .........GOOD LUCK !!

Kleinfeld's is AMAZING! I would not have bought my dress any place else. The customer service has been fabulous. They even gave me the option of ordering any dress that I wanted two months before the wedding after my dress's designer made an incredibly minute change to the dress that I had ordered. The change was so small that I would have never noticed it if they did not point it out to me.

Actually, Bay Ridge is becoming quite upscale
but I agree, they can be a little snobby

I think they are simply amazing...they carry an upscale line for a more discerning clientele. Kleinfeld's is not for everyone...but then neither is David's and Barons. I don't mean to be snobish....but to me, part of the bride-to-be experience is the fuss stores like Kleinfelds offer. JMO
