Just Out Of Curiosity...

I was interested if the proposal was a surprise, or if anyone knew before hand and choose the ring with your FH. How long were the you dating your FH before he popped the question?

Mine was a total surprise, the week before, he gave me 'the I'm not ready speech' and would I be willing to give him more time, and I said Of course, etc etc.. It was all an evil devilish ploy..lol

The proposal was a surprise. He proposed with a big red ring pop lolipop. Since we were a couple of weeks away from Christmas, we decided he should hold off buying my engagment ring until after the holidays. One week after New Years, I was at the jewelers picking my stone and setting!!

I was shocked!!!!!

He knew the ring I wanted though. I went with his sister in law to pick her wedding band and she made me try on engagement rings and she was taking notes. I gave him a card with all the info on it. I got the same setting but a bigger center stone than the one I had tried on. The proposal made me cry for weeks, as I am still crying sometimes but it was all a surprise. I was really glad he surprised me.

Fi and I discussed it a long time before we actually got engaged (financial reasons). We went to the store together and picked it out together. They ordered it in my size and he went and picked it up on his own. But I knew e/t except how he was going to propose. I'm not a surprise kinda person! I have to know e/t!

I knew I was getting engaged, but wasn't sure exactly when.. we had looked at rings, but it was all up to him.. he had asked my parents and they couldn't keep that good news from me.. he told them it wouldn't be for a while, but I didn't know if he was referring to the wedding or getting engaged, but I found out soon that he was referring to the wedding.. but I was still surprised!

He tried to make it a surprise but his car broke down when he went to get it so we went on the following weekend and I picked it out. He even let me wear it for 20 minutes at a time after we broiught it home!

The night that he propsed I totally knew... it was so cute how nervous he was at first. But I still cried at the sound of his words!

It took him almost 6 years to propose and 4 of those years we lived together.

We spoke about getting engaged and I had told him that I really wanted to be engaged by the end of 2003 but I knew it was up to him so I kinda put it out of my mind. I was completely surprised when he proposed in October 2003. I had picked the ring out a long time ago and he made some minor changes - which were better than I could have imagined. So all in all it was a surprise - and so romantic.

We looked around together and I knew it was coming (I even had a feeling that day) but he still caught me by surprise and made me cry :) We were together about 7 1/2 years at that point :)

Re: Just Out Of Curiosity...

It was supposed to be a surprise but I think I ruined it. On our way out to the wineries where FI was planning to propose, I asked, 'You're not going to propose to me today ARE you?' and I said it with my typical attitude. Of course, not 4 weeks before, he made the mistake (he admits) of asking me what would be a good place to propose and I said the winery Pugliese since it has that pretty lake with the fountain. I was really just being a smart a$$ and had NO CLUE that he had the ring. So, he was all mad and I had no idea why. I didn't bring it up b/c like I said, I had no clue. We get to Pugliese and we're sitting outside, I tap his pocket and say, 'So, what's going on? Do you have the ring in there or something?' Anyone who knows me knows that it's SO typical of me to do something like this. Poor FH, I ruined his whole thing. But he covered well--he said, 'No, just my cell phone' (took out the cell phone) 'Oh, and here's the ring.' He's so cute

It was a total suprise. We never looked at rings and he picked out the perfect one. We had been dating for a year. I was sooooo suprised! He asked my WHOLE family. so, they all knew.

I was shocked! We went out to dinner for my birthday and then we took a walk on the Brooklyn Bridge where he asked me!!!
He knew I wanted a pear shape but he did better then I ever imagined!!

I handpicked the stone and he picked the setting and later engraved the inside of the ring with the date he was to propose. It was a housewarming party for my brother and sisterin law (she is his cousin and we met at their wedding). I was surprised he would ever do it in front of my family and his. I have never seen his hand shake so much from being nervous. He was so cute and it was a great surprise. After all, we dated for ten years and lived together for 9 1/2 of those so this was a looong time a comin.

We had been talking about it. Everytime we went to the mall I would drag him into the jewelry stores and point out the rings I liked But I was surprised when he actually proposed... I didn't think he was ever going to do it!!

We were together 5 years when he popped the question. He did it on Valentines Day. We went out to dinner and when we got back to our apartment it was pitch black and he turned on a spotlight which was shining on a bouquet of flowers with the open ring box sitting in the bouquet. There were real red rose petals sprinkled all over the carpet. It gives me goosebumps when I think about it.

My Fi and I were dating a little over 5 yrs when he proposed and it was a COMPLETE shock! I knew that it would be happening within the year (we had discussed marriage, I was finishing school etc) but def. did not expect it AT ALL! its hysterical to look at the pics from that night b/c I'm in sweatpants and a t-shirt! I always joke around that he should have made me at least put jeans on!

Re: Just Out Of Curiosity...

It was a complete surprise for me. My Fh took me out for my birthday (everything was a surprise, I had no idea where we were going or what we were doing) to see a christmas carol at theatre three in port jeff, then afterwards he took me out ot dinner at a place i had never been to before called the Printers Devil in Port jeff also. ( he kept asking me what time it was, i thought his watch was broken, but he wanted to make sure he asked me before my b-day was over. he wanted to take me on the docks but they were closed so he took me to sit on a bench on the corner of main street with the dickens festival backdrop behind us. i was looking away and we were talking when i looked back he asked me and he had the ring out. I immediatly started crying and then said yes. the ring is perfect he picked it out on his own and used his moms diamond from her wedding ring( it think that is so special that she would let me have her diamond) I am so excited

I was totally shocked! We were together for 5 years, always spoke about engagements and marriage but never planned on it for financial reasons. We were in Disneyworld and went out to dinner, and after dinner went by the boardwalk and sat by the water. I saw how nervous he was, but we drove down to Florida the night before so I figured he was just tired. All of a sudden he pulls out the ring. I was shocked to say the least. It was a perfect ring too, just my style and he picked it out himself.
