I was interested if the proposal was a surprise, or if anyone knew before hand and choose the ring with your FH. How long were the you dating your FH before he popped the question?

Although I had gone looking at rings w/ FI so he could get an idea of what I liked, the proposal itself was a surprise. We'd been together almost 7 years.

Re: Just Out Of Curiosity...
I hate surprises! I used to cry when my friends would take me to TGI Friday's for my birthday and they would tie the baloons and sing happy birthday. I admit to orchestrating the entire proposal. I had always dreamed of getting engaged at Tiffany & Co in Manhattan, like in the movies. Well, Tiffany & Co Manhasset was almost the same. I still had a panic attack when he actually got down on one knee and people were staring..but it was much better than if it had been a total surprise. I would have ended up in North Shore. We were dating for 18 months when he proposed, but I knew the moment I saw him he was the right one.

Re: Just Out Of Curiosity...
We went to a jewler just to see what rings I like. The ring was in the house 2 weeks before he proposed. We where going on vacation so I thought he would do it then. he didn't want to takea chance of the ring getting lost at the airport. So one day i came home and found him on one knee. It was a surprise. Especially since hesaid he wouldn't be on one knee since he has trouble with his knees. After it happened, I didn't know who to call first.

Re: Just Out Of Curiosity...
I knew it would be soon but I really thought I had a few more months to go so I was shocked. As far as the ring, I had dropped hints about what I wanted but little did I know that his grandmother had given him the stone from her engagement ring about 6 months before because it 'brought [them] so much happiness' (58 years of marriage and still going) that she wanted to pass it on.
We were together for just under 2 1/2 years (2 years, 4 months to be exact) and had been living together for 6 months.

Re: Just Out Of Curiosity...
It was a suprise. We had been together almost 4 years, and i had been always asking him 'When are we getting engaged?!?' I was anxious since i would be finishing school in a few months and ready to move on. Little did i know that he had the ring from January till March, and during that time span, i kept asking him the same question. Then i finally gave up. We went on vacation to Orlando, FL in march. He asked me to pack seperate bags than his, i didnt really think much of it, (his reason was so we would have more room in the car), Anyway, we were there for a week, and the last day of the vacation was our 4 year anniversary together, we had just spent a day at the pool, and he went up to the hotel room to get ready since we had dinner reservations. I met him in the room a short time later, and when i arrived there he was on his knee, with the ring in his hand. The rest from there is blurry It was a TOTAL surprise!
