Just signed up for Pre-Cana....

Can anyone tell me what to expect? I am kinda dreading it because I am not sure what they are going to do and I dont want to answer personal questions in front of people. Luckily at least I will have my friend there also because she is getting married in October as well. Our pre-cana is two saturdays from 9:30-4:30 so I'm not sure what to expect since it is a long day.

Any insights would be helpful.

Re: Just signed up for Pre-Cana....

hey,

i did my pre cana classes about 4 months ago and they werent bad at all. Now i dont live in long island. I live in NJ so i am not sure if they are different or not.

Ours was a friday night from 7-10 and then saturday from 9-430. we had a couple people talk to us from the church parish and a priest talked to us too. But nothing to make us feel uncomfy. they also gave us booklets with questionares and stuff and they would seperate us to take the questionare and then when we where done we would talk about it privately. i was actaully really nervous about going and it turned out i was nervous for no reason. We learned alot of useful information. my favorite part was we wrote each other a love letter and they mail them to us a week b4 the wedding.

good luck

For us, pre-cana was not so much asking us personal questions as it was presenting us with scenarios and situations that we could face during marriage, and asking us how we would deal with them. There wasn't a ton that we hadn't already talked about amongst ourselves, but we hadn't gone so into depth about them.

You really shouldn't have anything to worry about. Some girls have complained that their sessions were boring or that they were lectured at, but others have had wonderful enlightening time. We definitely were in the latter group.

We really enjoyed Pre Cana. We of course as everyone else were very uptight about the whole thing. We did ours in 3-2 hour sessions...they were more like 1 1/2 hours. We basically talked about what we expect out of marriage, the different 'issues' that come up during marriage....the decision on where you go for holidays, etc.

Dont get yourself worried about it-they dont really ask 'personal' questions, its more about the whole aspect of marriage in general. Kids-what will you do if you cant have children, etc. Dont sweat it-it is not as bad as you are thinking it is right now

I loved my pre-cana!! I think it depends on the couple you get too. I think we have 4 or 5 sessions about 1 1/2 each...you are never asked personal questions. I mean they ask questions but nothing that's so personal you wouldn't share with others.

We actually had a lot of fun at ours!

yes, the priest or deacon marrying you will give you all the infromation you need about it when you first meet to set the date and have the interview.
