Re: just talked to M/i/a
Wow! I paid a TOTAL of $100 for hair AND makeup the day of, and I absolutely loved what she did and it stayed in/on all day and night! I could never have afforded some of these prices, and I found someone who I adored who I could definitely afford!

I think some peole get caught up in what a lot of what other LIW brides are doing. I know I did at some points in the wedding process. If I could've afforded M ia or the pedala sisters, I probably would've just went with them without even researching cheaper options, which I'm glad I did. Instead, i went with my own hair person who did my hair and makeup for 200, and I got what I wanted.
i think i researched every option 'cheap' 'overly expensive' i even considered letting my Mom who is a make up artist do my make up for me.....i just loved m-i-a and i dont think there is anything wrong with her raising her prices....if you are in demand and have a good reputation why not?

I dont think it is wrong of her, she knows she is good and there are going to be people who pay her prices no matter what they may be. I just dont think someone sould feel like thats the norm and since girls are on LIW book her and other high end makeup artists, they feel they should too.

ITA with you, Megan. There were times where I was like, 'omg, the LIW girls have menu's, I HAVE to have menus'.
I agree with this also.

i agree its def NOT the norm - a lot of the quotes i got and trials i went on were much less expensive - and i went on those trials b/c i saw brides who used those vendors and i LOVED their make up - but for whatever reason i just clicked with m-i-a and loved what she did for me.....i went on a trial with maureen pedala who is the most expensive person i tried and i liked my make up a lot - BUT just b/c she was the most expensive vendor i tried didn't mean she was my favorite - so it doesn't work that way at all - i don't think price and talent always go hand in hand and for the most part people are pretty picky when it comes to their make up so everyone will have a different opinion on different vendors....but you are right - she isn't the 'norm' her prices were on the high side even before the supposed increase....

Re: just talked to M/i/a
It is expensive. I was once quoted $500 just for hair alone by some salon in Manhattan. I actually emailed the girl back and told her that she has some balls for charging so much for hair styling.
However, I had a girl who was cheaper, b/c I couldn't afford alot, and I was disappointed with my hair on the day of. If I could've spent a few hundred more to be happier with it, I would've.
Is that $400 for BOTH hair and makeup, or just hair OR makeup?
If it's for both, then I would totally do it! If it's just for one, then no way.

Re: just talked to M/i/a
I used M*I*A* and I loved her! She did an amazing job on me, my girls and my Mom! I paid $150 for my make-up, but well worth it in my opinion.
I did go to her for my hair and she did 2 trials on me, but I ended up going to my salon cause I didn't want to break the news to my hair dresser I've been going to for almost 10 years.
M*I*A* was the best the day of. She came ON TIME, did all the girls WITHOUT any stress, was very sweet, and even helped me put my veil back on and pin up my hair a bit more.
The way I see it, you only do this once, so if you love it, go for it!

Re: just talked to M/i/a
I paid 65 dollars for my hair and nothing for my make-up. My regular hair stylist did my hair and a friend who does make-up on the side did my face. There is no way in hell I would have paid anything over 150 bucks for hair/make-up. That was my budget and I ended up under that. I dont think you get what you pay for because in my case, everything came out amazing. Just like someone else said, youre paying for the name for some of these hair/make-up people.

Re: just talked to M/i/a

Re: just talked to M/i/a
This is why everyone has options. Do your research. Only YOU can determine who you want to do your hair or makeup. IMO it's kind of silly to disqualify someone just bc of how much they charge. I did not use M*I*A*, but, I've heard she is simply amazing. She prolly has every right to charge what she does. You don't book someone just bc everyone else is booking them. You book someone bc you love their work. If you don't want her, then you better get to work looking for 'a big name' that is going to be cheaper. There aren't much. Good luck.

Her assistants do beautiful work too! She had two of them with her for my BM and they all looked great!

wow. i have to be smoking crack to pay that kind of money for hair and makeup.
i spent $150 on BOTH hair and make up and not once did my makeup run or my hair fall out.... and i went to a *gasp* tiny salon in massapequa that is by no means anywhere close to popular or well known.
you be the judge - pics are in my album.
thank you!

Got the money then spend it if not then do your research. You can find amazing people who do not have a waiting list of clients that are competitive with pricing a bit more and do a wonderful, amazing and flawless job.
Personally my hair was $150 and makeup was $50 so that equals $200. I was extremely pleased with both vendors I used since my hair and makeup stayed the entire night even at our after party.

'08 Brides... do you mind saying how much she charged for her services then? Was there a travel fee?
